yes you can plaster over artex, infact i do this a lot in my job
you need to first knock of the high spots of artex then seal the artex with a unibond or pva solution the night before , you then need to apply a thin fast coat of bonding, this is a plaster wich sticks like shit to a blanket.
it is then ready for 2 coats of multi skim, the first is only a basic thickner and build coat while the second is the coat you will be trowling to a nice smooth flat fiish and saying good bye to the worst stuff ever invented for walls and ceilings. ____________________ "Its Better To Burn Out Than Fade Away!!!!!!" Just be careful if you are going to chip any off, as some artex used to contain asbestos. ____________________ We're all just born to die. So lets have some fun

I believe there's a product available in B&Q that's specifically made for covering over artex.
Can't remember the name of the stuff right now, and also not used it myself, but it is available
I realise I've just been about as useful as a chocolate teapot, haven't I?? ... I'll get me coat ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N

imagine if you plaster over the artex, and when you sell the house, the next owner artexes over your plaster.. and then the next new owner plasters over the artex.. and so on...
Wonder how long before you'd notice the change in room size

Slight thread highjack
In my glorious 1970s ex-council property some bright spark decided in the past that woodchip on the ceilings, then painting it white was a great fashion statement. Will the same technique work to cover this? Sadly, given the state of the plaster board in the rooms I have tried the steamer on it's looking unlikely it'll steam off neatly.
Looking like I may well need to get a plasterer to come in and quote for redoing at least three or four walls ____________________ I'm immortal. Well, so far. |
