been offered an rgv 250 l reg 20thou miles i think ( unsure ) decent bodywork, new tyres, new front and rear sprocket, all thats up with it aree fork seals need doing and battery needs charging, do u think 650 quid is a good price???? ant tips what i need to look out for and is anyone got any experience with these? and finally hello by the way, ive been lurkin here for a bit but didnt wanna post a useless thread picture suplied isnt my actual bike but an identical replica

650 doesnt sound too bad. You might be facing a rebuild at some point but a good condition one should keep it's value quite well.

and any idea of the cost of a rebuild? and how i wud be able to tell, lol, im a first at this kinda two stroke as ive only ever owned a rs125? are they much quicker?

if you dont want it at that price i'll take it.

its a real shame, rgv's have reached that low point in the price cycle that all bikes go through. bikes like that are only worth circa £650 but they will break for a grand every day of the week.....

have it and do it up nice, save it from the bike murderers. in 10 years time it will be a sought after classic, as the 350lc is today........

mine did 126.03 mph and 13.91s @ 102.98 at bruntingthorpe a couple of years ago, 4s 0-60 is probably quite possible, but not for the feint hearted, it takes a fair bit of skill to launch one properly, without bogging, spinning, frying the clutch or flipping it...in general riding you're not likely to achieve it

oh that brings back memories, i loved my rgv, it was my first real road bike, best toy any 15 year old could ever have. very expensive to run and maintain, but awesome fun
go for a ride on it and then see if you like it

Every start for me is a race start and I'm quite capable of doing 'proper' two stroke launches; still sceptical; if nothing else, you're going to need at least one gear change which looses you a bit of speed.

(Ok, I owned RS250s, rather than RGV, but have ridden RGVs and they're pretty similar).

the guy who is sellin to me has a shop and hes keepin it untill i pay for it, just need to put a hundred quid deposit down and then its mine, goin in tomorrow to hear it running, quite excited to have a blast on it, the only thing that concerned me was if it sounded like a hairdryer like my rs 125, but then again i guess thats the fun of 2t's, the bike is totally standard except for a blue screen and sum bar ends, i was amazed at how pristine the paintwerk was aswell, had a sit on it and it felt only marginaly lighter than my track zxr4

rgvs always sound like they are about to go bang, so dont worry about it. mine sounds like a bag if nails, but has been 100% reliable*












*except when i forgot to but 2-stroke oil in it
