guys help please
i have removed the clutch cover from my sons GSM as the clutch was not working
the nut that holds the clutch basket in place had fallen off
my problems are this
the 4 bolts that secure the front of the clutch basket ,ie over the springs , should these be srcrewed up tight ?
if not how far should they be screwed in ?
also how do i get the clutch cover back on over the kickstart return spring ensuring the spring is in the correct location point
thanks in advance for any help
billy

Still not entirely clear!

It's often the case when putting these sorta thing back together that you need to assemble certain components onto the crankcase cover first, and then offer the whole lot up to the engine.

When you removed the crankcase cover, did you remove a circlip or something like that from the outside end of the kickstart shaft, and do you think you needed to do that?

What I'm suggesting is that, perhaps, you can pull the kickstart shaft plus some other bits and pieces (like the spring) out of the engine, and fit them onto the crankcase cover first????

hi the shaft has to be in the crankcase first as it sits behind the clutch gear
i am thinkink that somehow the return spring needs to be tensioned in situe ????
there were no cirlips to remove on the kick start shaft ?

Ah, Ok, so:

The kickstart shaft, and all it's associated bobbins for engaging it the the crankshaft or whatever, are rigedly mounted onto the engine?

The return sping then goes over the shaft, and locates onto the shaft plus a point somewhere on the engine?

Nothing locates onto the cover itself?

In which case, I'd have thought it was obvious you need to locate both ends of the spring first. Don't forget you'll have to make sure the kickstart shaft is turned to it's resting position, then the spring must be further tensioned because it's the only thing stopping the kickstart from waving around in the wind, i.e. you may need to wind it around another time.

That'll be a f@*cking mystery, then Smile

Could you assemble the shaft into the cover if you wanted to, the problem then being you couldn't fit it to the engine? I'm wondering in particular if the shaft part comes away from the drive gear part which, I understand is hiding behind something?? I'm pretty sure that the shaft and the gear on the end of it will be seperate parts, because that'll be how the engagement/disengagement mechanism generally works - the gear travels backwards and forwards on the shaft.
