What can you tell me about an old CBR1000F?

Been to look at one that a mate of ours has up for sale tonight.

It's an 88 one on an F plate, 41000 miles, VERY clean and the engine sounds sweet too.

The chap is looking for £1250 for it (although that could probably be negotiated) but for what I've seen of them on Ebay and Autotrader it seems that despite it's excellent condition he might be a bit optimistic.

Himself didn't get a ride on it as we went in the car and he didn't have his gear with him (called in to see the guy, he goes "come and see what I've got in the garage....").

So I wondered if any of you have had one, got one, what you think of them?

A mate of mine had one for donkeys years Jo. Never gave him any trouble in the years he had it. Bulletproof motor, tons and tons of easy smooth power, Typical Honda build quality. It was a pretty soft ride, being long and heavy and built for comfy miles, but it hanled better than it's size would suggest. The main thing you would need to look for is soggy suspension given it's age and weight. John thinking about it?

88 is an old jelly mould Hurricane one. Good, reliable, loads of torque and 100bhp. Horrible gearbox and not very popular.

Price around £850-£1000

I know where there's a D plate 750 Hurricane for 1/3 the money, need front brakes sorting otherwise only done 200 miles since last MOT (now expired). Very tidy bike too for an old 'un. The 1000 will pull your arms off - my brother's had 2 of them.

Hi

Rode one a few times many years ago. Not that high. Torquey. Top end was about 160 I think (I didn't take it there).

Most seem to have badly fitting bodywork and they had some cam chain issues.

No, no and thrice no. A mate of mine had afew hile he was int he trade. Chain driven alternator I believe and If the chain or tensioner need attention it's a crankcase split.

Nothing at all like a Blackbird!!

I owned one for 6 months, used it as a winter hack, couldn't wait to be rid of it, absolut pants.
No guts, poor ride, wibbly wobbly handling, poor finish absolute turd of a thing and damn heavy too.

A bit like comparing Fred Dibnahs traction engine to a Harley Davidson......................oh, thats a shit example, errrrrr, no difference is there.
