removed the restrictor kit from bikes because you are on a 33bhp lincence and had to have them on to buy it ??
Have any of you ever been caught or even asked if there was a restrictor kit fitted to your machine ?

I know a lot of people on derestricted bikes on restricted licences, the chances of getting caught by the police are slim.

But if you have a large accident, and the insurance co look at your bike, you'll find you're no longer covered.

And therefore, up the proverbial creek.

Depending on who you talk to, this may depend whether or not their absense caused the accident. For instance say you had been sitting at 30mph and hit another car it's unlikely that anything would be different were the bike restricted.

However if you crash your restricted bike at 140 after accelerating hard away from the lights they might have something more to say.

Had a big crash...

...they didn't even look at the bike.

My 400 was derestricted. My 600 is restricted still. 1 becuase it has more power than i can probably handle and 2 i don't know how to do it on this bike. Neutral

Or maybe im just a tight bastard Laughing

It's worth getting em restricted just for the paperwork. Someones bound to ask.

I just thought up a really odd ananlogy, tell me if it works; Its like someone asking if your wife is pretty, and you hold up a skimpy pair of her underwear... Proves nothing but shuts them up...

Think that vaguely works. Anyhew i got pulled doing things a 33 bhp bike Twisted Evil could never do. Got let off and it wasnt mentioned. Oh and only one companies asked for the restriction certificate.

Cool - as i am going to derestrict my 600 this week as 1. There is no power above 8500rpm 2. Eats petrol 3. Is sooooo frustrating as when you start to accelerate hard as soon as you feel like your getting somewhere the restrictor kicks in and you have to change gear What kind of difference will i notice when i take them out? The bike is a cbr600Fy BTW

Well I got caught at 105.4mph on a "restricted" Fireblade and they never asked about it. Restricted speed was supposed to be 98, but every 33bhp bike i've ridden has done about 110 indicated, so about 100-103 really.

My ZX6R was never restricted, my TL1000R was restricted for the entire duration of the ride home from having them fitted amy local shop. Insurance company never made any mention of 33bhp, was stopped on the ZX6R at 17 by a bike cop who reckoned it was the largest I could ride until I was 21. Rolling Eyes

It'd be when you had someone claiming against you for crashing into their BMW and injuring their wife and kids that I'd expect the insurance company to start trying to find ways out of having to pay out, the bigger the claim the more you'd expect them to try and get out of it.

You could get very very fucked over by the police and your insurance company but the chances of it actually happening are as good as zero. Smile

No one asked. So didn't bother.

Such a waste of a bike if it is restricted - why not just by a smaller better handling bike?

Same thing happens for me. Is very dissapointing, feeling the power dissapear. But I am not gonna mess around with mine wil let Honda do that, as they said they remove them for free. Dont know if/when they would do that though! I always mess things up, and dont fancy taking the throttle assembly apart.

The bike is a CBR600RR, and it hits 120 on the clock down hills. And around 110 on flat road. However at indicated 120 it felt much safer than a CBR125R at 75mph!

Taking the restrictors out really isn't hard, as long as you can operate screwdrivers and allen keys. Thumbs Up

Honda I'd expect won't remove them until your two years at 33bhp is up, and it'd seem daft to pay them to do something relatively simple anyway.

If i'm gonna be honest the restriction hasn't bothered me one bit because: -
A...I don't need to go 100MPH everywhere to get somewhere.
B...There is more than enough power to overtake.
C...I'm legal
D...I still get 200 miles to a tank.

I can;t be arsed with the hassle. I know I have cover for insurance and i'm not breaking a law. Leaves me with piece of mind really. Neutral

You say that now.

believe me a full power bike is much easier to ride.

give it a few more months.

Seems to me doctor you are trying to justify de-restricting your bike by asking others who may or maynot have done the same.

Do what you want not what you think you should do!

I would if there was anything.

Give me a non-import, 4-stroke >33bhp bike that would be comfortable on long distances, comfortable pillion, able to take luggage etc? The only one I can think of is a CB250.
