Stolen... recovered

Someone pinched my KLE500 last night.

They actually had the balls to wheel it away from the garden of a party I was at which had 80+ bikers attending it (many of whom have a very negative and ultimately physical oppinion of bike thieves and what should be done with them).

Anyway, a quick search in the dark revealed not a sign of it, despite the house being up a quiet and fairly long country lane.

Went out again this morning with Eddie (Fallen Angels other half) and eventually found it in a field, hidden behind a hedge. It was very well concealed (we walked right past it once) and had been pushed quite some distance. One can only assume that whoever had taken it intended to return for it at some later point (shame I had to come home really, could have arranged a nice little surprise for them).

No damage at all done to the bike.

Couple of points that came out of this.

1) I stick by my policy of not using the steering lock on bikes. Every scheemie scumbag knows that they can be easily and quickly forced. Had I used the steering lock, the lock would have been broken and I would have bent handlebars and smashed up switchgear to deal with too.

2) If your bike is stolen, it is worth having a GOOD look round the surrounding area. Someone may well have pushed it somewhere out of sight and stashed it there to return later. Especially so with smaller bikes or dirt bikes which are invariably stolen for joyriding rather than resale.

3) Attending parties it is always a good idea to keep a stash of rapidly worsening-in-taste hawaiian shirts in the near vicinity to you bike so that when you go to change into one you notice it's gone immediately instead of the next morning......

4) Don't try and argue the toss about the validity of insurance for theft when both you and the arguee have been drinking the green ones!

You are obviously going to the wrong sort of party pwntifex.

I can assure you that none of the people at that party would dream of fucking with someone else's bike like that, might move it, even decorate it ( ) but push it up the road and hide it in a hedge? I don't think so. Especially as the hostess was so mortified that the bike had been stolen whilst on her property that she had a whip-round for Stinkwheel which raised several hundred quid and is now going to be donated to charity instead.

Once had my KLR stolen (that wouldn't start anyway) - ened up in a car park 200m away. They must have had fun getting it there, as well - broken clutch lever and slipping gear lever, so stuck in first or second!

Speaking as someone who kind of inserted themselves into the conversation (literally, stood in between them!) to ensure that blows could not be exchanged I reckon he is very much against!

Much as I don't like bike thieves, it /does/ take guts to do something like that generally; though they tend to be the type that aren't so bothered by a beating.
Also, the ones that stole Dusty's bike were tall and a bit pikey looking. Apparantly the police found a chain saw and some air rifles in their van amounst other things.

Still reckon it had something to do with the two lads I saw wandering around as I arrived. It can't have been gone too long though, the gate was partly open as Strawberry and I were leaving and the dogs had been playing down that end (plus most of Frens' guests know to close a fivebar). Asked Big_Pete to ask if you'd moved it as I'd noticed the KLE on the concrete as I arrived and it conspicuously wasn't as we left... Wasn't sure if you'd taken it to use as a tent peg or something.

Had to laugh though, seeing the hatchback full of blokes (think it was Abbs and co.) when people were out looking around. How the hell do five people that size get into a car that small

Do you guys reckon it's worth a whip round to get a couple of ton together to buy a clapped out old easily-knickable crosser or scoter, and leave it in a conspicuous area, then absolutely lynch the theiving bastards who will inevitably try and steal it?

If you have a group of youngsters out "having a laugh" and they see a bike which they can wheel away and jump then they will be far more likely to do so if there is no disc lock or steering lock.

Sorry but it is common sense.

Yes steering locks are rubbish, disc locks not much better but to use neither is asking for some cider fuelled twat to pinch it.

I use the steering lock on the ZZR, primarily because the action of twisting the bars against it will set the alarm off. This is usually only if I'm going to be in audible range though, otherwise it's locked properly and alarmed.

There were several other bikes they could have picked. They picked mine because it looks like a dirt bike.

You don't push a KLE 500 3/4 of a mile along the road and several hundred yards across a field "for a laugh", believe me on this one. Anything more than 100yds and you feel like you are going to have a heart attack. It is neither light nor small.

I too was at the party last night and Stinkwheel took the loss remarkably well. I would have been snarling and gnashing my teeth baying for vengeance. When he told me it had been found, I was gobsmacked as we did not expect to see it again.
