Hey,

After 10 months of sitting in the shed in pieces i final got my GPZ400R back together and running. Although it does start and run it does not start easily nor does it keep running. Also once running it is quite lumpy and will not rev without dying.
Before i put it away, last year, i emptied the crabs of fuel.

Today i came to start it, to warm the oil ready for an oil and filter change. I left the tap on prime and went to get something. When i came back fuel was pouring out the nipple at the bottom of one of the carbs.

Now, i'm not an expert but my quess would be a sticking float in that carb. What do you recon? Does it mean that the carbs will have to all come out and all be taken apart or is there a quick fix?

Cheers,
Shaun.

Quick fix - tap all the carbs a few times with a spanner - hope it unsticks the floatvalve. Could also be the nipple > floatbowl joint has gone - had that on a few old carbs.

If it doesn't, then yep - carb stripdown.

Take it you used fresh fuel?? Could just be crap from petrol tank has been pulled thru and blocked valve...

The float itself will probably be ok, more likely the needle valve attached to it is not working properly due to a bit of dirt or varnish from evaporated petrol. If you are lucky it might fix itself if you flush enough fuel through it, otherwise carbs off for a good look and a clean out.

Thanks for the replies.

I emptied the fuel tank, cleaned the filter and put new fuel in it so i don't think its the fuel.

Thanks for the advice, i'll give the spanner tapping a go.

Cheers,
Shaun
