My pet hates on the road change regularly, for some reason I’ve come across this too often recently and it’s really bloody annoying.

I was doing 45 in a 40 through some traffic, riding smoothly and calmly nothing to hectic, as am getting ready to stop for a set of lights there is a small road to the left, suddenly a huge black Range Rover approaches the main road pretty fast, I see this and my reaction was an instinctive one, I grabbed some front brake and banked right, a half second and I released some brake as the idiot wasn’t going to fly out.
What’s the point here? If there is only a few feet of visibility to the main road, and visa versa to the side road, common sense would be to approach your exit at a slow speed to show you have grasped the basics of road manners.
FFS, either way I could have had an accident, if I grabbed too much brake I would be on my back, I banked left which could have been into another car, if he had pulled out I would have smashed into a 40K+ vehicle. Rolling Eyes

He's in a Land Rover. He has exclusive rights on the road and is above the Highway Code! Didn't you know that?!

To be honest, I see it all the time in London, I think it's designed to scare people on the main road, they will brake and hence create a gap they can pull out into.

Hate landrovers and more the people who throw them around the place alot. I was driving along a back road when one reversed out of an opening hidden in bushes and i crapped it! Confused then when i had slamed on the brakes nd nerly skidded she drove of at high speed then when i was in my temper i went off after her only for her to slam on her braked and throw the jeep it another opening, heartattack stage by now. God knows how she got her licence! i find they have a habbit of driving to close also. Rolling Eyes

This isn't just aimed at large vehicles, its anyone who seems to think it's 'cool' or something to show you they are in a bit of a rush and they can stop on a dime or soemthing.
It's a really gut renching feeling, they know themselves they arent gonig to fly out into the road, why the fu*k do these people do it?! Evil or Very Mad

I completely agree, the way you approach junctions tells other road users whatyou are going to do. Particularly on a bike it pisses me off, I usually move my road position to the centre of the road nowadays when approaching junctions so that I can see, and to put some distance between me and them.

I don't think there is that much thinking going on. They prob just like the feel of the acceleration and/or are in a hurry.

The same sort of thing happens with most car drivers, physiological i guess, and causes my pet hate - why on a single carraige way, when a car signals and then stops to turn right into a side street do the cars behind drift to the left before stopping? I mean WHY? It's not as it they can fit past and it just blocks the passage for me to nip past Evil or Very Mad

Grrr, yes! What REALLY gets me is when I filter on the right, then nip through the gap between the 1st and 2nd car - but they don't even leave enough gap for me to get through either! Evil or Very Mad

its not tho, most 4 x 4 drivers are arrogant, and with there " Iim bigger than you " attitude.

Also what is the need to own a big 4 x 4 in Central Manchester?

Fucking waste of time

Guys...guys...its got nothing to do with the 4X4, it's idiots not making their intentions clear, it is scary stuff.
You could come off from a handful of brake and you'd be the only one to blame.

They don't have to make their intentions clear; as a biker, you should know they're undoubtedly going to do something stupid and plan accordingly...

This is true Bazza but with any main road like this one (40mph) sometimes because only a few feet of entrance to a side road is visible and you are obviously concentrating on the road a head while observing the pavements, a vehicle that come in from the left far to quickly gives you little time to react.

Agreed but i know what killa means when he says about cage drivers rushing up to junctions when you're traveling 40+. It's totally pointless for them to do it.

I've noticed boy racer pricks tend to do it alot, best you can do is go to middle of road, be prepared to brake and swerve and try and catch their eye.

Well just to play devils advocate....why do we grab a hand full of throttle as we nip past them, hitting the speed limit in the length of a 4 x4 with a comfortable roar from the exhaughst rattling thier teeth as they reach for thier heart which has just jumped on the dash board.......thier own fault if they had been observing they would have seen you squeeze into position, it's been said before only bikers see bikes and I think half of the late braking is due to them not seeing you, so is that a good thing, ie they are at least seeing you even if it is last minute and having to slam the anchors on.

I,m sure this 4X4 debate has been aired so many times, if I was to say all scooter riders or all bandit riders are tossers I would no doubt come under fire from everyone, so to group all 4X4 drivers together as arrogant is wrong, I drive my Land Rovers giving as much attention to other road users as I do while I ride my bikes,

I didn't say that....all I was saying is that I know vaguely where you live, and can understand the need for a 4x4.

It doesnt make you an arrogant c*nt, no! But if you were to posess one in the middle of Central Manchester, then it would make you a cunt. I dont see the point, especially pompus, spikey haired fuckwits living in their one bed roomed shag pad apartments.
