honda nsr 125.....top end no power

i,ve got a honda nsr 125 ( passed test........getting the insurance down!!).....it runs well but @ 8000revs, thats it!!!!......i've also got an aprilla rs 125, and that screams its nuts off up to 11000 revs.....i want to sell the honda for a kdx 250, but don't want to sell a bike thats not 100%......does anyone have any ideas what i can do, to get the bike running as it should??????....thanks

have you done the air filter? put some red in the tank to clean the gunk and also when did the rings get done last.my nsr is good all the way to 11000 revs red line even hehe other than that dunno

have you a workshop manual? alains has a website with one on it,if you find it hard to find or do the air filter.to clean it wash it in fairy liquid and dry out thoroughly and soak some oil into it if it is a sponge type.my nsr is an italian import and 1992 takes me 2 hours to do as whole bike needs to be stripped.

Do you think the exaust could be coked up and restricting the air coming
out.Two strokes need the exaust cleaned every so often.

my exhaust has'nt been cleaned since I got it.that was 2.5 years a go and still going good.if it was the exhaust it would die as soon a the engine was started.more than likely a good service or rings.Someone who knows more can help better as I am no mechanic but just what I have learned from my situations,and chatting on here alains is brilliant what he doesnt know about these things isnt worth mentioning.and he's a good fella

check to make sure that your p/v is working. maybe your valves r shut and they dont open when it gets to 7k revs.
check your airfilter if its blocked and carb ect

Would agree, sounds like the power valve needs a bit of attention. Sounds like it is getting stuck and could do with cleaning out or something.

just stick the bike in honda for a service as they would clean all the carbon build up in the top end of the engine and in the exhaust. or u could do it your self. i cleaned my top end up with a bit off sand paper when i was changeing the rings

If it has, it's probably actually a bonus for selling it.

Hi Guy's

been having the same issue with my '95 NSR foxeye italian import... went like mad to about 8.5k revs then just ran out of power...

had it dyno'ed etc fueling set up all seemed fine... but then last week it decided to just die while i was out... turned out the piston rings were on their last legs!! so be warned, mines in the garage having the head sorted out and new rings etc... so probs worth getting sorted sooner rather than later...

then look the valves sequence if iy's correct . i recommand also good cleaning of tank (tap) , carb (inc strainer) air box filter (foam) and fit a new plug
