VFR 750 rattle

I've owned a 2nd hand VFR 750 for about 1500 miles, there is now what sounds like a tappety rattle, I think from the rear block when warm, it doesn't go away with the clutch in. (I'm not sure if the tappets are hydraulic or not). Anyone any idea's A DIY fix or an expensive shop job

JC1507 I would need to know how many miles on the clock and a bit
more info.What year is the bike so as to check for the manual.

Check if it gets louder or quieter when rev'ing it and if it rattles alot when rolling of the throttle.

Change the oil, never know when/if last oil change was done.

Tappety Rattle:

Should be Honda's finest gear driven cams. so:

Either it's the tappets; Adjust 'em yourself. I know of no bike with hydraulic adjustment, but will be happy to be corrected on that.

Or the exhaust is blowing at the header. Block the exhaust with your boot, see if the engine bogs down quickly or stops. If it doesn't, it's leaking and can make a noise easily mistaken for cams/tappets. This technique is not to be found in any Honda manual and should only be used if you're an idiot like me, or a trained tech and no-one is looking.

Too high-tech for me, Paddy. Tappets ought to be mechanical, and that's all I have to say on the matter. Apart from my sadly neglected car, that can just bloody well adjust itself.

When I say "my" car, I mean that warm thing with a stereo that I paid for and the wife drives.

Thanks for all replies, will try and get on it this week and try the suggestions, I'll post the results here.

Paddy, miles on the clock are 24000 and the bike is a 1995 VFR (FS I think)
