Its soo weird, when i was working as a bus driver,we allways used to give a wave to other bus drivers, even though we never seen them before.van drivers dont do (usually waving the middle finger) it.car drivers dont do it.truckers do it(usually flashing all there 50 bright as fook lights all over the front of there truck, half blinding every fooker else).
Eevery biker i've passed recently allways give a nod.
well apart from the scooter riders, but around my area people riding scooters are usually chavs Very Happy .
so whats it all about then how did that get started?

I noticed that most bikers nod me if there riding 125s up to full on superbikes, but the bikers riding there harleys style bikes dont nod anyone unless its another harley styleee rider. Confused
I must'nt be worthy for them on my crappy chinese import 125 crosser stylee bike.
Its pretty cool that it happens though,it sorta makes ya feel like your not alone when your out riding..weird.

I usually nod, and find that I'll get a nod back about 80% of the time.
For reasons known only to themselves, cruisers/Harleys tend not to respond, and peds/scooters often don't either.

The only time I don't nod is if the rider is acting like a pratt, giving bikers a bad image and/or not wearing any proper kit. Thumbs Down

I always make a special effort to encourage learners though Thumbs Up Wink

strange is the nod aint it, I find many bikers will nod (a slight head movement towards the shoulder) is quite visisble.

I have had the Harley's nod, but then maybe because i am on a cruiser style 125

The only people i dont nod at are learner scooter riders, cos they are generally only waiting till they are 17 so they can buy a 206 with a bodykit anyway.

Cruisers riders dont nod, but i keep doing it anyway, screw em!

I always nod, I find it a nice and polite thing to do and a way to say hi!

It does make you feel like you are not out on your own, which if the rest of the biking community is anything to go by you really aren't alone out there.

cheers

cheers mate! it's guys like you who keep folks like me going when, for example, I'm on my way home after an afternoon's worth of failed u-turn practice and don't feel much like a biker... having someone give me a nod reminds me what I'm aiming for and why it's worth the effort.

I'm all for bikers nodding

Couldn't of said it better myself. Ped Riders are generally the biggest waste of time around.

I know a lot of ped riders are but not all of us. The reason I am on a ped is cos I want some road experience before I get onto a bigger bike wich I cant do till 17 anyway and I generally enjoy riding. I have said to myself when I turn 17 the first thing I am doing is getting my bike test done. Once I am on the road with a bike I will look into a car but the bike comes first. Not all ped riders are just waiting for their 206. Dont tar us all with the same brush mate. Smile

For anyone that knows where i ride in Newport you'd understand my point. There are a lot more idiots than riders with sense. I really can't say much because i'm only on a 125 but if you'd ever ride through Bettws you'd understand.

I know where your coming from there mate.

I ride up Newport every now & then and your garanteed to see quite a few chav ped boys, such people never get a nod from me.
However down my local area (Caldicot --> Magor) there are a couple of sensible ped riders kitted up which allways get a nod.

Well your in the snob end of newport there. I'm from Malpas so to get to Cardiff i really don't have a choice but to use Bettws as i don't have my full license and my CG would die on the M4.

I always nod, wether you can tell is another matter. As most of my ride to work is NSL (of course I was doing 60... officer!) I get to see the approaching bike (also doing 60, officer!) for about 2 seconds.

I nod, but hardly get any back. Rolling Eyes

i still nod at the scooter riders, but if its a scooter with max power stickers plastered all over it i dont bother...and even the ones i do nod at ignore me anyway.i cant say anything about the kitted up bit as i ride with jeans and trainers and a fleece jacket..i really cant afford to spend big money on proper biker clothes.even my gloves are the magic gloves u buy in a corner shop for a quid.lol.
yes i know im in big trouble if/when i do come off but ignorance is bliss.

I always nod to other bikers, with the exception of scooters. Mainly because I live in Birmingham and almost everyone riding a scooter in these parts isn't really someone I'd want to nod to.
Talking about chaps on their Harleys, I nodded at one once in slow moving traffic and he started up a conversation with me!
Usually my nod consists of a winking move - like a left and down and twist at the same time. Sounds weird but it's what I do when I wink so it's natural... for me anyway.

Generally nod to everyone, but like other it's mostly scooters who seem not to return the gesture. To be fair to most of these are commuters heading into Glasgow in the pissing rain.

Made the mistake of nodding to peeps on training school run one day. What I got back looked like a mexican wave.

Whats all this about cruiser & Harley riders not joining in??
I ride a cruiser & nod to everyone (except people riding in shorts & T-shirts or Ped's riding like wasps!)

My other half rides a Harley & he nods too. Wink

I think the problem with Harleys is that a lot of owners are just wealthy people who have them just because they can.
They aren't bikers & know nothing about the biking world!
If you nod at them they probably think you have a fly in your eye Rolling Eyes
My hubby on the other hand has been riding bikes for years!!

Just a thought!! Wink

first day out on the roads ever, wobbling along on an old 100 CC Honda and a CBR 600 rider gave me a nod. cheered me up no end.. Smile

My opinion is, if you want the nod, you shouldn't have bought a ped. You should have bought a CG\RS\NSR\TZR\CBR etc.!

Unfortunately, there isnt really time to check if a ped rider is just waiting to get a proper bike, or just waiting for his all over burberry body suit to arrive, AS i pass them.

So in the meantime, im afraid, if you dont have a geared bike, you arent getting the nod. Razz

Zen Dog

P.S. Strictly speaking, if i get the nod first, i'll even nod to ped riders, just to be nice.

Well, for what it's worth...

I nod to EVERY respectable rider who has taken the trouble to wear the right gear - even scooters and ped riders.

Sun glasses, Tee-shirts, shorts and trainers? Forget it. You will never get my appreciation as a responsible biker Thumbs Down

Just my own opinion, you understand Wink
