Honda XR125L Lighting problem

Hi i have a honda XR125L 2003, and now that its starting to get dark have noticed a potentialy dangerous problem with my lights.

When i'm riding it hard, general most of the time, the main beam light flickers on and off and the off part can be for at least 1 second, yet when i have full beam on this problem does not happen. But when riding it conservativly the light behaves it self.

I was thinking that it could be a regulator but the odd thing is this only happens with the mian beam on.

On another note if it is the regualtor this could explain why it eats number plate light bulbs.

The bits that are specific to high beam are the switch, bulbholder and single wire between them. Everything else is shared with low beam.

I'd suspect a vibration induced intermittent connection amongst that lot, which will be hard to pinpoint. Possibly best just to clean each part up up with contact cleaner and hope for the best

First thing I'd check is the bulb, then the wiring around it.
