peygeot vivacity de-ristricting???

just bought the above bike for my brother.i had to ride it back tonight only about 5 miles.5 miles too much.
its only doing 35mph topps...doe anyone know hoe i go about de-ristricting it?
i done a search in this forum,and i found a post that says take out the variator plate??? i have absolutely no idea about xcooters...could anyone give me an idiot guide on how to get more top speed out of it?

I de-restricted one of these once, its not too difficult, just fiddly. You need to take your crankcase cover off, remove the variator, then throw away the washer that stops it from fully opening.
The link below is quite a useful guide for removing the variator, despite the fact that it isnt for your model of scooter the principle is the same.

After you have done this the scooter should be noticably quicker, the next thing you can do for a slight power gain is to remove the expansion pipe from the exhaust. There is a small pipe sticking out of the exhaust at the end nearest the engine. Chop this off and weld a plate over the top. Job done the scooter should be de-restricted. You could invest in an expansion chamber style exhaust rather than the big bean tin things they usually have as this would make a big difference, but I wouldnt bother.

Hehe, i had one of these ('sportline' version aparently...exactly the same but didn't have the built in lock and was slightly diff colour scheme)

I had the exhaust chopped and welded but it went upto about 45mph screaming the rats bollocks off it.....i was told not to do the variator without spending 150ish on a new exhaust...

But then again, scooters are designed for commuting to work/college/school or what ever.

They aren't exactly going to set a new land speed record for the sewing machines are they?

why does it need the exhaust? does this mean ill not get any more speed if i take the washer off the variator without changing the zorst.?.
i was just going to chop and weld the expansion pipe off the zorst,and maybe a bigger carb jet..im not expecting lots of speed but around 40-45mph would be nice...
