Hi

I've just bought a communications pack from Autocom (I know - she'll be able to bend my ear on the road as well now). The dealer said "it's easy to fit - just connect to the positive to the tail light wire and the negative to the neg of the battery (earth)"

Great - sounds really easy except that when you're a thicko like me - you don't know which wire is the right one!

Does anyone know which wire (colour) I should be using? Under the seat laeding to the tail light cluster - there is a choice!

I have a 2004 Pan European ST1300

Thanks Graeme

Does the Autocom have a power-on led?

Connect 1 autocom wire up to the battery earth.
Turn the bike on so that the tail light comes on (presumably, it's on all the time with the ignition)
Pull the electrical connector for the tail-light apart
Touch the other autocom wire to each terminal in the loom side connector.
When you touch the live one, the autocom should light up.

You could always connect it to the brake light, so you can only hear her when you're slowing down Smile

finpos.

I have mine permanatley connected to the battery via an optimate battery lead with no problems and is quickly disconnected. The optimate connections are the same as model car rechargable connections and can be bought from Maplins or on ebay.

This is from a USA site here
Quote:
...On Hondas, green wires are always ground. On the ST1300 tail light there are three wires, Green, Green w/ YellowStripe for the brake light, and Brown w/ White Stripe for the tail light...
There's wiring diagrams to download on that site too.

You could also try searching/asking on this site (in the 1300 bit or the UK/Europe section).

bear in mind that even when 'off' (i.e. no rider's lead plugged in) the autocom still draws some current, and it will flatten your battery if left for any length of time. It's better to put it on a switched circuit, either via the ignition, or fit a separate switch as I have done on my FJR.

I have one.
Goto the autocom website.
Download the PDFs from there.
All you need to know.
ADVICE:
Got to halfrods/maplin and invest in a cheap voltage tester/AVO meter. <>£10....????

Autocom use cables with nice little in-line diodey doofirs and shite to connect accessories.
You can get those from a BMW bike place or call Autocom.
These connector cables prevent 'back-feeding' one device from the other.
So you can have your:
Tunes,
GPS,
Safety Camera Detector and GF all gitterin' in your ear with perfect Fidelity. Laughing

Happy Biking

Hi there,

We usually connect them to the rear brake light switch feed as this is switched via the ignition key. To find the live side unplug the switch from the loom and use a tester put the black wire from the tester on the - side of the battery and turn the ignition on and put the red wire on one of the brake light switch wires (Loom side) if you get 12v or more on the meter that is the one you want, if not check the other wire.

Connect the autocom red wire into the live side and the black wire to ground (- side of battery). See the how to connect wires how-to on this site.
