You have to place a sign to say CCTV in use or you can not use it as evidence. Or summat.

I will do, though it'll be nailed on the tree slightly up out of eyeline so it's there but not immediately apparent. I want to spend 100 quid on the CCTV and 20 quid on a good solid cricket bat.....

Is that the one that comes with a free challenger tank as well? If so then I'll leave it parked up at the end of the street, hell I'll move in as it's probably bigger than my house and then just aim the gun at the pavement. The blast'll take out the car as well but it'll be a small price to pay for nailing the cnut that has been vandalising my cars off and on for the last 4 years...

Any wireless IP video camera will suffice, as long as you can securely mount it so that it can't be nicked, and get power to it via a method that he can't disconnect. Downside - wireless IP cameras are expensive.
Failing that, any USB Webcam on a USB extension cable'd do the trick (used to use this method meself), but same risks - all that needs doing is cable cutting to get round it... Majority come with software required... but if not, there's plenty of free motion-detect/grab software on the net...
I stuck my USBCam in an old margarine tub with a hole cut out for the lens, painted the tub black, mounted it to outside of me house 20ft up (just outside the window of the room with the PC in it) back when I lived in a 1st floor flat as I got sick of running up n' downstairs to answer the door only to find it was oiks lookin' for the guy downstairs, and seeing as he wasn't answering they'd ring my bell to ask me to knock on his door to check for `em. Got rapidly sick of it, so employed camera so I could see if it was someone I knew or not, and if not, ignore ____________________ FAB-Racing MiniMotoSidecars - Back with a vengeance - F1 Class 2011...

check out ebay for some of the kit on there. Theres several options to go for. Depends whether you want to hard wire the kit or go wireless. Wireless should come with its own power supply usualy a small 9v battery and receiver. If you want to record at night then youre going to need Infrared or day & night camera. If youre going to use your pc to record footage then either make sure the camera you get is pc compatible. If not then you will have to get an analogue tv receiver card aswell as the camera kit ____________________ We're all just born to die. So lets have some fun

Tbh, an analogue system into and old cheap [£8 from a car boot] VCR with the receiver and Day-night cam is the best idea, as it will allow you to use a Tape a day ... This means a good filling system is in order ...
When your on about PC based CCTV, there are stil alot of issues that can cause the CCTV'ing to mess up ...
Even simple things like your Anti-V running updates uses alot/most of your systems resources [especially Norton software] can cause issues ...
Your system can slow causing long breaks in the recodings or even your system crashing and stopping the possibility of any recording going on ...
One of the best methods if your determind to use a PC, would be a linux based system ... Get an old un-used coffee table, oh i mean computer [not that i used them as coffee tables , ish ...], Cram a mahooosive HDD in there and run a linux based OS ...
That would be your best option as most likely you can pick up and old P2/P3 or XP Thunderbird based comp for sub £20 ... Then Linux will be free, unless u go for a more substancial Linux OS although alot of the time, the free stuff is better ...
Then your Cam (Day-Night and Wired/Wireless), hook it up, set it up and record for days ...
Plug your monitor in to set it -up, then disconnect it and just leave it going ... unless something happens, plug the monitor back in and find your culprit ...
Just my thoughts,

Yer, but PC based systems can be build for sub £1k ...
Found a card on flebay for £20, about 20fps, bit poor but hay, tis cheap ...
But then a 200fps card (with the ability of 16 cameras) was £80 ish... [from america] So you can take your choice, but there's plenty on other tinernet pages and sites, go for a browse ...

if your only running 1 camera then 20 fps is not much below real time.
If youre not connected to internet and just using it for the cctv then no need to have any other applications running ____________________ We're all just born to die. So lets have some fun

Hi mate, not sure if you have a PC World near you, but the one i have near me has a range of CCTV systems on offer that will back up to Harddrives/Web/DVD's/Videos
I think they were the motorola ones, well worth it in mine and my dads opinion, they also alert you via text aswell |

Tuh ... PC World, horrible place, over priced mayhem in there ... I waited an hour or two to get into their big christmas sale [apparently], but when i got in there, even their 'Sale' Prices were £10 - £15 more expensive that i could get the same parts for ...
Might be good to go ask for advice, but then come home and buy the stuff ...

thinking about tracking down a cheap and tatty laptop for next to nowt and fitting it along with a pair of USB cameras (converted over to Infrared, which is dead easy to do) and shoving the whole lot in the car with a wireless card and beaming the pics back to the house comp.
Either that or fit some cameras near the garage and point them at the car from above. Seen some wireless webcams for about my price range and have a spare 12v bike battery to run them off.
In the meantime I now have no option (car was scratched again last night, all down the right hand side ) but to empty all my tools and the bike out of the garage, cram the tools into my small shed and chuck a tarpaulin over the bike. Just in time for winter as well...

"PC stored images are inadmissable in a court of law".
However they are in the "Break your knees if I ever see you near it again" vigilante court.. .
Will have (another) meeting with the local beat officer soon. one good bit of news is they've caught the swines who were doing over all the cars in our carpark here at the office by leaving a "honrytrap" car as a target. Decked out with covert cameras and all the gizmo's inside (stereo, Sat nav etc.) were all fitted out with GPS trackers. Caught a group of people with over 200 Sat Navs, wallets etc. they had stolen in their flat. (was done at 2am this morning.) all those cheap Ebay sat navs will be drying up very soon...

If I record onto DVD (lots of space for pics) then it's ok apparently as it's not stored on the PC.
Shame I have to pay the Govt. 35 quid and put up a sign with my contact details on it if I point it at a public space.

Thats okay, put it up at the end or your driveway then point it inwards ...
What about it being recorded to HDD then burn to disc?
Not sure if you can have a constant burn on a DVD from a Comp ... ____________________ 2007 Kawasaki ZX10R :: 1998 Kawasaki ZX-9R - SOLD
