I've so much trouble finding a good NC30 , and have seen many VFR750s 93/94 , good substitute? or not? , as said I don't want practicality , just some twisty road fun for this bike.

any thoughts?

Hi there mate! Well, I would say that if you dont get a vfr400 it would also be a good choice to go for the vfr750, might be heavier though but also great fun, with more grunt in the corners! I doubt that it will be as fast as the vfr400 in the corners. I personally own a vfr400 94'.

Pretty much different. Unless you go for the vfr750r RC30 which is the bigger brother of the 400.

VFR750 is more sports tourer.

darn it! . all the good ones I've seen , I go back with wads of cash in my mitts go back and its been sold, I missed a '94 one with 22K on the clocks recently hard to get these babies....

Totaly different design brief to the vfr4 mate, fast in a straight line and stable around corners but dont expect lightning direction changes. that said much more comfortable and bullet proof motor.

vfr750 insulates you from the riding experience so good for long distance, but i prefer something a bit more twitchy on twisties

when i tried one, i was having to go faster to get the same level of thrill. its great for overtakes tho as its got lots of mid range torque. peak power may be same as a sports 600, but it has loads more mid range due to it being a 750

Sykesbykes in Oldham have got a vfr400 for sale. £1599 I think but I could be wrong. Looks ok from a drivepast view but I've not had a close up inspection. The phone no is 0161 628 3300.

One of my many unfundable ideas involved converting a VFR750F or pre vtec 800 into a sort of more up to date RC30.

How different are the motors in say a VFR750F RC36 to a VFR750R RC30 lump?

Not loads as far as I know. There used to be a guy in Windsor called Jez Lloyd (I think) who was good with VFR's. He had a seriously modded version. From what I remember he chopped and rewelded the crank to give a big bang type firing order, converted the gear driven cams to chain, plus loads more.
