GPZ400R Project So Far

Hey,
For the past year i've been rebuilding my GPZ400R. As its almost there i thought i'd show you all some pictures of my progress so far. Don't expect too much though, the fairings at the sprayers. Any comments are welcome. When i get the fairing back ill update and show you my finished project.

I bought the bike 2 years ago as my first proper sportsbike, after owning and loving my old GPZ305. The bike cost me a mear £400, which i dint think was too bad, only problem with it was a biggg hole in the exhaust.

After fitting a second hand exhaust and respraying the bike i rode it for 2 months before a cyclist pulled off the pavement in front of me. He took me off, put himself in hospital and then sued me for his mistake. The fairing was scratched to pieces and the exhaust i had just put on was dented severly. Needless to say i lost heart in the bike. Over the summer i run the bike into the ground and come winter a complete over haul was needed.

My nan emptied out a shed for me and there the bike was stripped down. If you look closely you can just see the bike, surrounded by my nans bloody annoying chickens.

The bike was stripped down, to all its individual parts, the frame was powdercoated and the uni trak suspension was completley rebuilt with new bearings. The front suspension was also completly overhauled, the stansions where powdercoated and new internal parts where bought.

The next few months where spent slowly rebuilding the bike, and eventually putting the engine back into the frame.

After months of hard work i've now come to a point where the bike is almost useable, the only problems i am facing at the moment is with the carbs. After putting them into the bike once i had to take them back out again due to the float bowls been full of crap.

I was wondering why the engine was only firing on 2 cylinders!!

Once cleaned up the bike ran perfectly. But the float bowls now leak so theyve got to come off again and have new gaskets fitted!!!

Well thats my ramblings over. If you've gotten this far i hope you like what i've done. When i get the faring fitted i'll update with the completed bike.

Yer the chickens are OK, the only problem is that shes got about 40 and when she lets them out they crap evrywhere lol plus when it rains it stinks of s*it.

Unfortunatley the case is still on going with the cyclist. I've had private investigtors over, from my insurance, but still nothing seems to have been sorted. Even though no money has been handed over to the 3rd party i still lost all my no claims. I haven't heard anything for about a year now. I keep ringing the insurers and they don't know whats going on

A little shed all of my own, thats what I want!

I can't wait till we buy a place with land again, so I can have my own workshop for bikes! I hate trying to work in the garage and tripping over my dads shit all the time, and not being able to find tools because my dad takes them and leaves them everywhere

And I want chickens in it to keep me company

Me and the old man are thinking of going to the Isle of man next year with a load of people so i want it finished and running relaibly for that.

I haven't done much on the bike lately, the forks need sorting and i'm waiting for my dad to machine a part for my brakes.

I went down the other day and it wouldn't turn over too I could of cried lol I think the batteries dead on it.

Having a shed has been great. All my tools are down there and theres a garage full of tools as well. Welders, grinders, etc

The chickens are OK lol Only problem is they smell and they seem to like picking up bolts and other small parts lol

I've just bought another bike, GPZ305, so i think some time will be spent getting that sorted for the winter.
