well i may be the dumbest person alive.
today i went to change the gearbox oil in my bike (02 nsr), i removed plastics and took out the drain bolt.

now drained i go to fill it back up (this is where i make the mistake), instead of filling it up on the right hand side where youre supposed to i took the 7ishmm allen key bolt out of the left hand side and put all 0.8l of gearbox oil in there Crying or Very sad Mad Thumbs Up

i go to start it (not yet realising ive put the oil in the rong place) and the starter motor just whirrs, eventually starts and runs lyk poo.
then oil start pissing out of an overflow pipe from the left hand casing.

i think ive put the oil in where the rotor ect is and the starter.

so guys and gals can anyone tell me what ive f*ck*d up and how much it is going to cost me.

tomorrow morning i am planning on taking the left casing off an draining/cleaning it out and then putting oil in the right place.

all help will me much apreciated.

thanx liam

You might actually get away with it. There's nothing in there that will be particularly susceptible to being soaked in oil. Just remove the casing and give it a clean-out.

There's sometimes a tiny drain hole at the bottom of that casing. Stick a basin or something under it tonight or you might find a big puddle under the bike in the morning.

finpos.

Almost everyone does. Most bikes have a 'wet' alternator anyway.

well sat morning i set to fixing he bike.

took all the farings off i needed and removed the left casing.

as sodn as i removed the bolts and gave it a tap the oil came pissing out.

i let it drain and then used the brake cleaner from work to lean up as much as i could then wiped it down.

i built it back up and it started 2nd time.

i've found that when its left it doesnt start 1st time like there is still some oil in there and its settling over night when its stood, when i go to start it it whirrs but starts 2nd time. so i'm planning on letting it 'settle' over night and doing the same procedure again to make sure ive got all the oil out. Thumbs Up
