Fifth gear did any one else see it.

It featured the kawasaki ZZR1400.

I though it was quite funny that Tiff who used to drive F1 cars, the fastest cars in the world, was to scared to take the beast above 160 odd. It shows how much more of an adrenaline rush that bikes give you compared to cars. Twisted Evil

It also showed a shot of the last time tiff was on a bike, he was exiting a corner and fully opened the throttle. What was he expecting to happen? Of course he came off, he didn't realise how much harder it is to powerslide a car.

...and did you see his eyes!

To be fair, think he just ran out of track and if your only ever on 2 wheels on odd occasions...

Glad they managed to point out how much more exciting it was, more of a rush on 2 wheels as opposed to 4.

Ye seen it Wink I used to be into the old ZZR's but when it was
time to get a big bike I thought 1000 - 1500 miles a tyre a bit hard on the
pocket so went for the XJR instead, now 33K miles later in 4 years
and how much I would have paid in tyres I recon I made the right choice Shocked still the ZZR 14 Twisted Evil

Tell you what I think about the ZZR1400.

I'm standing on the side of this runway doing the timing for some top-speed runs. I'm on the radio my wife on the timing gear and across the way is another guy Matt doing the other lane and Kickstarts wife is also there taking pictures. There is the mother of all tailwinds, and many of the bikes are coming through at over 200mph. We have to keep stopping the racing to stand the timing gear tripods back up.

A busa comes past, screaming it's nuts off. Sounds bloody fast. 202mph

Another 'busa with a full Akro, almost at the redline comes howling through. Sounds wicked. 200mph

A well-tuned R6, full pipe. I can hear this bike leave the line over a mile away. It howls up through the gears and gets into top quite quickly, then the revs slowly but steadily rise (I count 22 seconds). Sounds like it's going to go pop any second holding max revs for that long, and it screams through at 175.4mph.

Another bike, sounds like a stocker very smooth the revs climbing quickly as it gets up through the gears to top. Whistles through the speed trap but doesn't sound particularly fast. It's a zzr1400 with just an end-can.

I look at the timing gear readout:

205.4mph !!!FUCK!!!

These things are deceptively quick, they just don't sound it. If you come up against one on any straight bit of road don't even bother coz it will eat you alive Very Happy

I caught the last half of it. It seems they were filming at the Ace Cafe (the 4 wheel drive thing anyway).

Cool. Cool

I thought they did all their 'studio' type bits now from the Ace, its' their 'cool' way of doing it versus Top Gear.

Yeah but it's a bit stupid isn't it?

I always thought Ace Café was a biker place. Thinking

I saw the ZZR1400 bit. Vicki Henderson would get it.

Have they found a way to by-pass the 186 mph restrictor now?

Why does kawasaki put restrictors on the ZZR1400 at 186mph?
How much more dangerous is it at 205mph?
It seems stupid to have a restrictor so close to the top speed. Confused

It's an EU ruling and it is only 186MPH cause converted to Kilometers that is 300KPH.

I don't think it is a law, more of a choice by some manufacturers.

The restriction is a "gentlemans agreement" between the larger japanese manufacturers. There was alot of noise and bluster about banning any bike over 100BHP, plus assorted safety gear becoming required (due to the ever increasing perfomance envelope of motorcycles). The big four looked at this potential impact on european sales and implemented a number of self imposed "restrictions" (often very easily circumvented) to settle the fluttering hearts of our eurocratic keepers. It's terrible to see a large group of such upstanding people so worried by the idea of a person hurting themselves on a bike that they have to bang through laws to regain their composure. Still, it's nice to know that politicos look after the dear sheeple so very well.

On the ZZR1400 a speedo healer does quite a good job of it.

The 186mph speed limiter (300kph) has nothing to do with EU rules.

All the best
