Dear all,
Last MOT the nice man advised that play was getting bad on my rear wheel bearings. I bought some online for the correct bike (a 1980 GSX750E) but alas, when l offered one up to the spindle it was obviously the wrong size (like a prick in a top hat). I sent them back and they were replaced. Now, the replacements are very nearly the right size but the spindle is still reluctant to pass through the bearing. My knowledge of bearings is limited, in fact nonexistant. Does this sound right? Should l force the spindle through or send the 2nd pair of bearings back too? Presumably there are not loads of differing bearings that vary by fractions of a mm! Should l resort to getting this done by a garage?

keep well, ride safely B

Hi

Bearings are generally sold in standard sizes. Quite a limited number cover most bikes ever made.

Personal guess would be that the threads on the wheel spindle have got slightly chewed up.

All the best

Keith
