Took me a while to realise that the reason why my bike conked out and would nt start was due to the need to turn the tap to reserve I was almost going to push the bike a couple of miles home
I always filled up around the 120 mile mark as Froggeh suggested as to not get into this situation before, but I forgot. ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

Had the same problem bring my new bike back from the dealers even after the "salesman" had told me that there was over half a tank left. |

Now wait till the time comes when you run out but have forgotten to change the tap from RES to ON last time you filled up. That's REALLY good fun.
Incidentally, most of the bikes I've had would misfire when going onto reserve and I could catch it on the move. My mate had a CBR600 however, and if that went onto reserve it would not only cut straight out but also take a while to get started again (so he told me). First time it happened was in the middle-lane of the A2. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

think yourself lucky,my bike ran out a couple o weeks ago, i was purposely running low so i could see exactly how many miles it did before it hit the reserve.
so i pushed it onto the path flicked it to reserve expecting it to fire back into life but no such luck..i found out the hard way that my reserve doesnt work. had to push it to the petrol station.now i fill up soon as it gets to half tank. ____________________ DRZ-400sm |

First time i ran out of fuel was on my old moped...just has i pulled up at the pump
But the one that made me shit myself was in the middle of nowhere in northumberland....there just happened to be a bus fixing place about 2 min walk down the road (don't ask why it was in the middle of nowhere because i don't know...strange northern notherners )
Then coming home from up there...just coming into leeds on the A64 i konked out..went into a paki shop to use his phone (damn i hate having no credit) and got my dad to bring me some in a tetra can
But saying that....i can get 200-220 miles before going onto reserve |

I got 260miles on my YBR125 before going onto reserve!
I didn't go over 50mph on a 100 mile journey then avoided the dual carriage ways and went over tops to college.
I trying to see if i can put 8k on my bike in one year! On just under 6000 and got till start of jan.
I aint run out of petrol yet 'touch wood, i won't be too soon'. I have pushed it to the point where i had to put 11litres in my 12litre tank tho ____________________ Dave

I get quite some distance on my bandit between fill-ups, get about 160 miles before the last 'blob' (reserve indicator) starts to flash, then i have another 40 miles (at least) before the fuel level gets really low. So 200 miles on £15 worth of fuel (at todays price of 85p/l).
And before someone else says it, NO! I dont ride like a fanny.

Wish mine did the same, I get about 180 out of it. The bandit has learnt to love the redline!
Just dont take it till the little pump starts flashing, I found out the hardway that I'd left the bike on Reserve. ____________________ Past: GZ 125 K4 Marauder, VL 125 LC Intruder, FZS 600 Fazer. Present: GSF 600 N K3 Bandit, GSX-R 600 X(soon)

bless the new bikes. my ninja, keep flashing yellow (there is no reserve turn), hence i fill in!
Had a scare on my test ride. The dealer gave me the bike (Ninja ZX - 6R) to test ride on the day i passed. 4 miles down, it started flashing yellow and blinked FUEL in the display. Panicked and stopped at the side of road. Spent 2 minutes trying to find the fukin reserve switch!!! called the 118 and took number of dealer, called dealer, git refused to pick up!!!! Anyway rode on and went in to to next pump and filled £4 worth of fuel!!
It was quite funny when i realised there is no reserve switch.. ____________________ Theory: 34/35, 64/75 Test: 23-Oct-06 PASSED (No minors)

Well, it had to happen some time
Went to see my old boss, only 12 miles away. had a fair bit of fuel.... so I thought....Left, ment to go to gas station couldnt be bothered. 5 miles down, bike cuts out. I was lucky only doing 60, and the kind guy in the left lane knew I was in trouble (slowing down rapidly n indicating) let me through. Had cones on the hard shoulder and only just missing one!!
Bone dry. Poor dad had to go but a contaner n gas.
Teach me a lesson. |
