(If you bore easily by scenery pictures I suggest you skip this thread!)

So..... With the ok weather we just had I was itching to get out and ride and take some pictures so I made a quick thread in the Welsh section and rang a few people but I guess I was just meant to go it alone as no one else could make it!

I waited untill about 2pm to see if anyone in the Welsh section would reply and then seeing as no one up here did I set off. I filled up in Llandudno Junction then headed down the A470. I made a quick photostop in Blaenau Ffestiniog which always seems to be gloomy no matter what the weather is like everywhere else.

Trawsfynydd Nuclear Power Station - My old physics teacher won't stay in anyone's house in Trawsfynydd because of this power station which I always thought was funny because he always got really defensive about it for some reason!

I carried on down the A470 through Dolgellau then turned off for the A487 to lead me into Aberystwyth.

That's the view about 2/3 miles after turning off the A470 onto the A487, I have no idea what that pass is called but I thought it was quite stunning!

I carried on down through Machynlleth and thought seeing as I wasn't making great progress due to being stuck behind lorries and whatnot to just carry on through to Aberystwyth.

After negotiating the annoying one way system in Aberystwyth I managed to get onto the promenade and got myself some chips for my tea. Being a young bloke on a bike, naturally I attracted some local birds.... (groan)

Vultures!!

The trusty steed.

My bike and a fazer that pulled in after I got there.

A few bikes came and went while I was there including a new Yamaha MT-01 which sounded dead weird when the guy started it up as it sounded like he'd just turned on a computer with all the whurring and buzzing that happened before it fired!

After a few quick texts to some uni mates (none were there yet) and a fresh tankful of unleaded I was off back up the A487 and back up the A470. I turned off for Barmouth just after Dolgellau and I felt really in the groove between Dolgellau and Barmouth which was nice Very Happy.

Getting near dusk the other side of Barmouth.

View of Snowdonia mountain range from Barmouth.

I carried on up the coast road to Harlech trying my best not to stop every 4 seconds to take another photo!

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/Untitled-12smaller.jpg

Harlech Castle.

I then rode past Porthmadog over a small pass that I learned about a few weeks ago on a ride with some people from work.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/Untitled-13smaller.jpg

View over Porthmadog (or somwhere near there anyway!)

I carried on up through Beddgelert and then I came over the mountains to drop down into Llanberis where we went on the BCF rideout part II.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/richardgreenmirror.jpg

(Photo taken at the BCF rideout but I rode past that exact place just it was a bit darker!).

It was only a short blast up the A55 back home but I saw 2 police cars, one of which pulled a car over for doing 80mph on the A55 which I thought was a bit harsh considering the road was dead and there was good visibilty (although they could of just got a warning, I didn't hang around to find out!!)

I did about 210 miles (not including the 20 miles to work and back I did yesterday aswell) and all in all I had a great time. The roads were a bit clogged on the way down but on the way back up they were almost empty and I really felt in the groove a lot as the roads were really flowy. I had a few brown pants moments with artic lorries being in the middle of the road and with me running wide a few times but we live and learn!

I urge everyone to spend at least a day in nice weather riding the roads in Wales as everyone can have fun no matter what bike you're on. I doubt I would've been any faster on a quicker bike on some of the roads I took and if I'd of been going any faster on the more open roads I would of missed most of the stunning views anyway!

Sorry if I bored anyone with the long post!

That was a cool write up. Thumbs Up

I went to Wales once for a break. Went to exactly the places you rode through so it was good to see pictures of those places again as I thought they were awesome, especially the castle which I spent hours in. Embarassed

Thanks Very Happy

I could easily spend days or even weeks jut riding around up here and exploring all the old castles and ruins or just taking in all the amazing views. It still gets me that people spend hundreds of pounds to come and visit here on holiday but I'm lucky enough to live here!

Wow.. some stunning photos!

Looks really nice.

When I got the train from Birmingham to Wrexham for a footie match, I thought it was beautiful even just across the border (and I bet that's like the south's countryside compared to the north's in England Very Happy)

When I get my full license I'm definitely going to do some riding in Wales. Luckily my permanent town is in West Yorkshire so I have some lovely hills / moors to ride on myself Smile

Here's to good riding through great countryside! Thumbs Up :beer-icon-which-isnt-here:

Superb pics!! I had hoped to join the BCF ride out but dont get the frame off my leg after a nasty racing accident back in april 06!! It's coming off on the 8th of next month and cant wait to do the LLanberis bedgelert run (I live on anglesey so its pretty local for me!!) A photo from the car park on top of the pass and maybe one looking over the lake will be added by me as soon as I'm back on the bike!!

I know what you mean about trawsfynedd as we pass it on the way down to the race track in Tonfanau...Not so sure I'm keen on using the picnic next to the lake as it was used for cooling of the nuclear reactor and they are still de commisioning it!!!! But a lovely road for a bike!! If ever your interested why not have a look on the tonfanau road racing website and spend a day watching the bike racing!! about 5 miles from Towyn and only £5 to get in and you can happily mix with the racers in the pits(Field)

Or maybe take the A55 onto anglesey and follow it to rhosneiger and follow the signs for the new ty-croes circuit!!

I've been meaning to get to the track at Rhosneiger for ages now as I only live about 30 minutes away from there but as yet I just havn't got around to it and I didn't know about the track in Tonfanau either so I'll have to go and check that out at some point Thumbs Up

When you're up to it it'll be good to go for a spin up around here as I'm sure you're not going to be wanting to be going at a blistering pace after an accident as I'm not that fast anyway!
