PostPosted: 20:32 - 23 Jul 2010    Post subject: Project 'cos I want one' Reply with quote

Started this project a long time ago when I had some spare cash with the intensions of building a road going two stroke motorcross bike.

When I first started riding (many moons ago now) I always thought that the DT's and KMX's lacked the rawness and aggression of full on motorcross bikes, and that 'wanting' of one never really went away. Hence this project being born, it has no real purpose apart from the joy I get from building and owning it (and I lurve the smell of two stroke).

So sourced the bike I craved when riding around on a DT50 14 years ago, a 1996 Honda CR125 Cool

https://img210.imageshack.us/img210/6916/1thestart.th.jpg

And then stripped it, here's a few shots

Sorry for the sh#t camera phone pictures. Click the image for a larger version.

More to come soon

Got the frame and subframe powdercoated in red. The place that did it were very good in the way they covered the head stock and all the threads, am very pleased with the result.

Sweet project!

How are you gonna go about getting it road legal? fitting lights or just daytime MOT?

Going to put lights on it.

Put the engine back in

Along with the re-plugged and re-wrapped (using heat proof braid and water proof wurth plugs) ignition loom.

Managed to find this, not an easy task finding race parts for a 1996 bike! It has also been to HM Racing to be shortened and modified for supermoto use.

https://a.imageshack.us/img820/9271/25ohlinsshock.jpg

Also got the wheels back from Talon. They have been respoked with new rims on the original Honda hubs. Bolted on the new sprocket, discs and fitted the tyres.

Have got all the body work now including an oversize enduro clark tank imported from the US and an airbox. I did some research into it and the previous 1995 one seems to be the one to get (not sure why exactly) and has the bonus of being black.

https://a.imageshack.us/img9/2200/60newblackairbox.jpg

Also got this Thumbs Up .

Still a way to go, need to wire up the fuse box and make the rest of the loom, fit the chain, fit the rear light and a million other things.

Must remember to set the date on the camera next time I use it Rolling Eyes .

Nice bike, but I think I speak for the majority when I say hurry the fuck up with your other bikes.

It's looking good dude!

I hope the wiring and all the extra loom required for the lighting, indicators, horn etc is not too much of a ballache either!

I respect the way you have gone with this project, i.e starting with the powerful MX'er and making it into a road legal motard. I can see why you wanted to go this route too instead of starting with a DTR/KMX/TSR etc. If it was me though, i think that starting with the fully road legal and battery and full electrics equiped trail bikes would have been the easier and maybe better option for a road bike. You can then go about getting the performance from them either with extensive tuning or an MX motor swap into the trailbike/motard chassis.

projects like this make me want to keep my 20yr old MTX and convert it into something like this but its the money thats holding me back Sad

i don't know what to do, make a tuned and pimped looking 125 enduro 2 stroke, or spend the money on an old 600 bike Sad

the bike is looking great and i wish i had the time and money to do such things, verry jelous.
