Yeah, my mate choclate ritchie was hooning down the motorway on his stunner of a GSXR 600 K1 when it snapped.

The chain took out the water pump and ripped it from the engine casing. The output shaft leading to the pump sheered off inside the
lump. We had a look lasrt night, drained the oil and its a complete mess in there. Defo a dead one.

Found a replacement on ebay for 250 with 13k on in. Been run with restrictors in there for a couple of years too. The bloke threw it down the road on the LHS and buggered the fairings, and the bike was written off.

Ill have a closer look at it when i go check it out this week.

For your amusement.

Aye mate, uber lucky he was.

If he didnt have a hugger he would have fukd his leg. The hugger and his undertray are destroyed aswell.

I had one snap on my VFR but I was going relatively slowly, about 35mph. It took a chunk out of the undertray and smashed the front sprocket cover/clutch arm cover mounting points off the crankcase, effectively knackered the engine as welders couldn't fix it. Mine got bunched up around the front sprocket, a lot of people are lucky andd it just gets spat out the back without a single bit of damage.

Check the inside of the frame above the swing arm mount for damage. Alloy Vs steel at 120mph, i know what i'd bet on winning, i'd also bet that chain is a fucking mess Laughing

Good thinking Frosty. I had a quick look and didnt notice any mega damage, but ill inspect it at the weekend.

I reckon it was a slack chain that sat on a tooth of the rear sprocket.

But ah well, shits and giggles.

Looking at the pic you posted of some clag covered engine I think we have different ideas of what constitutes a "stunner" Confused

Lucky bugger, he could have ended-up being a very high speed pedestrian with a smashed leg to add to his problems. There's a limit to how many 100 yard strides you can do with a bust leg before you lose your balance.

Had the drive chain snap on my bandit while doing 80 last year.

I was lucky also, just had to buy a new sprocket cover, clutch push rod, chain and sprockets and one indicator.

Although the bike still has a couple of marks were the chain whipped up and hit the rear tail plastic.

i blew a split link on the rocket 3 at around 50, the bugger ripped round and smashed the rear light and bent the number plate!
if it wasnt for the alloy plate, i reckon it would of hit me!

I checked the swing arm tonight and its not good Sad

nice crack in the weld that holds the brace. Its a runner and following the weld up and over. non-repairable so its time to replace that.

Click for bigger pic.

Question,
will a thou/750 k1 swing arm fit a 600 k1?
same goes for a water pump.

cheers

A bit more progress, not much but....

Over the past week i have been tripping out on the meds for the kidney stones and ordering more stuff on ebay that i dont want but NEED!!!! atleast that whats the missus has been told.

Besides the computer stuff i got a new hugger and DIDX c+s set.
Went back to the garage today to crack on with putting this bike back together. Fitted the genny cover with the new gasket, then tried fitting the water pump.

Wait, this doesnt look right. These holes dont line up. Its missing an outlet pipe. CUNT! the twat on ebay has raped me. Jumped on the bike and hooned upto Blacks Motorcylces (i wish it was run by black dudes cos it would be well funny) and said i bought it from them on ebay and they swapped it for the correct one. WIN!
Hooned back and the pump fitted straight on. Fitted the clutch/sprocket cover and called it a day as the missus said it was time for dinner. Before i put the bike away i was trying to route the clutch cable, with great difficulty. Anyone got a pic of how it should be routed?

Cheers

Noice ! Hope he kissed he leg when he got home.

Happend to me on the M5 coming off a sliproad - nailed it from slip road 60mph to 99.9mph (You get me? Laughing ) and snapped clean. Piece of link even hit my visor, thought it was a big stone until I realised I'd lost the chain and put 2+2 together later on that night.

All it did was punch a hole in the top of the front sprocket cover.
Old man got the van out, put a new cover on that night, chain next evening and was back on the road.

Kawasakis are alot tougher though. Rolling Eyes

Why does this happen? Incorrect chain adjustment, old chain and sprocket?

Doing wheelies which affects the rear wheel stabilisers?

Just why did the above happen?

Insufficiently maintained chain normally.
