I need to start stripping paint off stuff now (wheels etc.), but dichloromethane paint stripper is banned.
I've seen pure DCM on ebay here, is it worth buying? Been reading into it and heard horror stories of people dying. Is the pure stuff OK if used in a well ventilated area with gloves and a respirator? |

No sorry. The front wheel still has the tyre on and I don't have any tyre irons or a bead breaker, reckon I could get it off with some large screwdrivers? Doesn't matter if it damages the paint because it's obviously getting painted.
The only thing holding me back with this at the moment is money, I need a new lid from the bike show, to pay my car insurance and chrimbo pressies so trying to be as frugal as possible until I get payed which means not spending anything on this annoyingly. I get paid in a week so should hopefully get things moving again then.
I want everything powder coated before the new year, so I need to strip the forks down to get the sliders done and add a tiny bit of weld to that yoke lock stop - I managed to knock it back 90% of the way with heat and a hammer but I can't move it that last 10% because it looks as though I've work hardened it
Thanks for watching |

Use a garden shovel to break the bead, then large screwdrivers with lots of gaffa tape wrapped around them to remove. ____________________ Previous: GSF600, FZR600 x2, ZXR750, XT600 Tenere, CB125, CZ125, ETZ 250, ER5, CCM R30, DRZ400, RF600x4, RF900x2, GS500, VTR1000F, 640 SMC, CB250 NIGHTHAWK, GT550x3, GPX750 TE610, CB500, X11x2, SV650, ZING 125, TL1000R,CB250 Superdream, CBR1100XX |

I am such a bell end
I borrowed some tyre irons off my dad yesterday. This evening I've spent half an hour wrestling with the tyre trying to use a vice to pop the beads off. After eventually getting one bead to pop, I noticed that the rim didn't have a noticeable bit of paint missing which I thought it always had. Confused, I checked the tyre size: 130/70/16.
I was messing with the wrong fucking wheel rim! I wanted to be stripping the 17" rim.
So I looked at the back of the garage where I thought the 16" rim was, and there was the 17" rim, with no tyre on
The rim is sat with paint stipper on now. Should be painted this weekend What a nob. |

I've got quite a lot of progress done this last week - it doesn't look like much but I've got some jobs that were proving awkward done - mainly that bottom yoke lock stop.
Hopefully this isn't spam, but the it really was proving awkward getting that yoke lock stop welded up. I didn't really want to buy a new set of yokes just because a lock stop is a bit too far forward but the place that welded the frame said the yoke was difficult to weld, so just added more weld to the lock stop on the frame instead, but I wanted it done properly (mainly in case I ever changed the yokes in future).
Eventually I called in at a welding equipment place to see if they knew anyone that can do metal that's a bit difficult to weld, and was told to go to a place just down the road. I went in to this place to see if they could weld it up and got a "No problem, giz it 'ere" response Two minutes later it had a nice thick blob of weld on the back of the lock stop.
The payment? "Nowt, Merry Christmas!" (they got a fiver anyway)
So, if anyone needs anything welding in Sheffield, Exotic Metal Fabricators get a massive thumbs up from me
The lock stop now I've ground it into shape:

In place:

The forks don't clout the tank any more
I then did a test fit of the frame on the engine to make sure the new thicker cross bar I had put in wouldn't get in the way of putting the exhaust on, which it won't.

And finally, split one fork leg so the slider can be powder coated. Will split the other leg tomorrow.

That's kind of it now for preparing the components, should be powder coating next |

Jesus Christ, literally the last thing I need to do before getting a price for powder coating is take the RHS fork leg apart and it's absolutely stuck fast. Spent 5 hours over the last two days trying to get it to split but looks like the bottom bush is going under the top one.
If anyone has any tips for getting it out I have a thread here about it |

Well I got the fork leg apart - hooked the hole the spindle goes through over an old driveway gate bracket and gave it a few good pulls.
Everything went to the powdercoaters last Friday to be ready for tomorrow. I phoned them up today, and the sandblasters still have my frame so it won't be done till new year. Not a massive issue as I was only going to put the head bearings and loom in over Christmas (can't make a rolling chassis yet because the fork bushes won't be here till new year), but still a bit of a set back.
I need to do maintenance on my other bikes and tidy the garage, so every cloud... |

wouldnt really be bothered about a project hornet at the minute, I know what i'm like and would end up getting far too carried away replacing bits, would cost a lot more than a complete one when i'm done .
with yours i can see exactly whats been done right down to the frame and can see your making a good job of it, which is something you never get to see when buying off random ads. I can understand why you wouldn't want to sell it though. Just thought i'd ask on the off chance
