NEC 2004: Eye Candy (The Bikes)

Well, I went to the bike show yesterday at the NEC. Pretty good overall, though busy as expected. Bought some new mounts for my paddock stand and the new Ghostrider DVD (review to follow, when I've watched it). The other half picked up a Haynes manual for her NC30 a few quid cheaper than normal.

Anyway, bikewise I don't think there are any great shocks there. Except for me... The two bikes that had the biggest impression were the new Triumph Speed Triple and KTM Super Duke, which both looked gorgeous (pics below). That's saying something coming from someone who's never looked at much else other than sports bikes.

Speaking of sports bikes, now that I've seen the 05 GSXR1000 in the flesh I really like it. That exhaust looks okay, and the whole bike looks good. What is a suprise is the width - when you sit on it, it feels like my girlfriend's NC30 - very narrow, and a lot smaller than my GSXR750. If you're a short-arse and want a looney bike, this could be the one for you...

I did the KTM Supermoto experience, which is supposed to cost £5 with a £20 deposit although they didn't ask me for any money. They put you on a 640 LC4 and give you 10-15 minutes around a circuit they've devised. You just need your own kit and your bike licence. None other than Ady Smith gave us advice and took us round. What did surprise me was how quiet they were - hardly anyone was having a go. I don't know if it was a combination of it being wet (still plenty of grip on those things, it's mad!) and most people going in their cars?

Yeah, in the concept, the front was green, whereas the bike at the show was GOLD Razz
