I don't want to do anything permanent/semi-obvious as the land lord would not be too happy to know that an unqualified and colourblind tenant was rewiring the entire garage
What I'll do is buy an extension cable. Like 10-20m. I'll wire up the garage like you would normally wire up a garage, except I'll pop a plug on the end. Then when I want to use the garage, I'll just plug the garage in to the extension cable.
I should be able to run 4 plug sockets and 2-3 lights that way. Obviously I will just have to ensure that there is no high load on the sockets. I think just having the plug sockets scattered around will be useful, they'll go mostly unused apart from perhaps a radio, a little bit of soldering and usage of a drill. Nothing too demanding like a white goods appliance and/or TV. ____________________ 2004 R1 & 2018 XSR900 |

Just buy a consumer unit, you can get little ones for garages which contains an RCD and two MCB's, so a circuit for lighting and a circuit for sockets. With a few spurs you can add a load of stuff easily They cost about £30, the other benefit is that you are far less likely to get electrocuted and you can kill the power in an emergency.
I run one which is connected to the fusebox in a house via 35amp cooker cable. It can simultaneously run two strip lights, a 2hp extractor, two 3hp motors under full load and a radio...without tripping ____________________ NSR 125F > BROS 400 > NC30 > BROS 400 > Trumpet S4 > '97 VFR 750 |

Well, turns out Paddy's way was cheaper Got 2x 10M 13A extension cables for £10, whereas the 20m extension cable was £25. If I want 20m then just plug them together!
They are sitting like this in the garage now:

When I want power in the garage, I'll just plug them indoors.
Then the garage will be wired in to 2 plugs, both with a 13A fuse in.
Next to do the wiring of the garage. ____________________ 2004 R1 & 2018 XSR900 |

You're going to lock up that heap? What's the point when a wet fart would blow it over? ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Well... 8mm bicycle combination locks... so hardly high security.
The point of the locks is just so that I can have access from both sides. Currently the double doors are dead bolted from the inside and the front door is dead bolted from the outside. Makes putting bikes in and taking them out a right pain in the arse.
So thread combination locks through and then I'm able to open and close the doors from both sides. ____________________ 2004 R1 & 2018 XSR900 |

The size is excellent. I have so much room to work on the bikes. I'm used to doing work in a partly full single car garage, where there's barely room to walk.
Even simple jobs like fitting new tyres and chain and sprockets is so much nicer when you have a lot of room to play with
The only issue is that trying to get the bikes out when it's been raining is a nightmare...
A drive in basement would be absolutely amazing... do want... ____________________ 2004 R1 & 2018 XSR900 |
