|
|
I am fairly new to this forum and this is my first 'proper' post so here goes....
i bought this grey import 1991 honda crm250 last week for £1300, its spent the past 4 years living in the countryside so it was covered in mud and cow shite, but with less than 15,000km on the clock i knew there would be a nice bike under there somewhere
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/My%20Motorbikes/IMG_5895_zpsxmfwkqt4.jpg
after a few days of fettling and cleaning she looks like this (and of course the picture taken on a decent camera helps a bit )
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/My%20Motorbikes/DSC_0889b_zpsjfhtmdbn.jpg
But there are a few jobs i want to do/parts i want to change
- The rear sub frame is rusted
-the clutch lever is a cheap nasty aftermarket one which the blade is too short on and the F brake lever/master looks old and corroded so i wanna replace both
-its going to be ridden on the road around cenrtral bristol so it will need indicators and (maybe) mirrors (sometimes )
the wiring is there with a relay so it should be a case of wiring indicators straight in.
-someone has cut a nasty slot out of the original rear mudguard for a tail tidy or something so i need a new mudguard
-remove the hand guards because theres not really enough bar space for em and the mounts are chewing up the renthal pad (even though its knackered anyway) and im not that keen on them
-fit red renthal bars. it has renthals on atm but they are looking old.

ooh! I like that a lot! A proper 2stroke supermoto indeed!
I think Adam's bike would like to have those wheels and tyres for his gentle rides to work with the BMW M3's and MR2's he often meets. |

@pepperami: nah, you probably just have a large screen
@dangerousdave: from a distance or in the pictures you wouldnt see the blemishes that would bother me (like the slot cut out of the tail or rust on the frame) but its still a real nice looking bike. its an animal on the road, its geared for quick acceleration and it doesnt weigh much either. top end is about 100/110mph.

Here's mine, red and purple, in "pretend supermoto" mode, with tyres courtesy of Steve, with "Tristan." who owns an AR, off the forum, I took this picture after picking his bike up after he slipped and broke his leg.

I'm not sure about getting some YZF-R125 wheels for the TTR, or some NSR 125 wheels for the CRM.
Look after it. Tea leaves love them, I love mine, pulls the front end up in third and tops out at around the tonne! ____________________ Current:1991 Honda MT50 (Soon to be a H100/MTX/MT5 hybrid), 1976 Honda Cub C70, 2005 Honda Varadero 125, 1993 Yamaha TTR250 Open Enduro , 2010 Road Legal Stomp YX140, 1994 Honda CRM 250 MK III, 1999 Cagiva Mito 125, 1992 Honda CB400 Super Four, Stomp T4 230, 1984 Honda H100s, 2009 Sym XS125K

Well... I'm nothing if not a gentleman. I just wanted an excuse to ride his AR and see if it was much different.
It was very funny, I'd got to a suitable waiting point, Tristan wasn't close behind, gave him a minute or two then decided he'd crashed. I turned and headed back to fund him flat on his back with the front wheel up in the air with the bike wedged in the rut somehow. : lol: : lol:
With the nonstart, I've found my killswitch has been caught between run and off because it's worn a bit. Maybe nothing though. ____________________ Current:1991 Honda MT50 (Soon to be a H100/MTX/MT5 hybrid), 1976 Honda Cub C70, 2005 Honda Varadero 125, 1993 Yamaha TTR250 Open Enduro , 2010 Road Legal Stomp YX140, 1994 Honda CRM 250 MK III, 1999 Cagiva Mito 125, 1992 Honda CB400 Super Four, Stomp T4 230, 1984 Honda H100s, 2009 Sym XS125K

Don't put any lights on it. Make it a proper tool machine. 2 strokes are there to piss others off, do it properly |

So this is the CRM? this is gonna look mint, i can already see you're prepared to put the effort into it to make it so. its a shame about the rear mudguard though and that somebody's incompetance has meant that you have had to find another panel. i can only guess that section was cut out of the rear for the tail tidy, some people just have no concept of how to make an improvement and do it right, in fact it probably would of looked better if they left the original light cluster on it to begin with.
looking forward to more updates

The funny thing is, to somebody that probably looked like a fairly good job, even though to you and me its just botched |
