|
|
This weekend just gone 15 of BCF's finest left Folkstone at approximately 11.30 British time and headed for Le Francais to hoon their streets and obliterate their toilets. They never saw us coming.
Friday night Dan (Harroman666) travelled down from the deepest depths of hell to stay at mine ready for an early start Saturday morning. 6.30am on the Saturday Dave (Doovy), Lee(Groovy) and MattB (MattB) turned up absolutely soaked through That's what happens when you're northern, rain and misery. The weather was not looking promising and I feared it was in for the weekend but there was nothing that could be done about that and we geared up ready for a mega weekend. We set off waterproofed up and headed to Cobham services where we met Pigeon, Neil (Bishbash), Brian (Wots), Helen and Alex (Monty). We sat down to a McD's breakfast and I broke out the viz of destiny. I looked like a king fo' sho'. Once we had filled up on a highly nutritious first meal of the day we headed back onto a rainy M25. 5 minutes further on though the rain subsided and that was the last we saw of it
We arrived at the Folkstone terminal, checked in and met up With Paddy. Had and good chat and compared high viz jackets whilst we waited for the train.
If can take your eyes off the mighty RSV you will notice in the background a pair of highly visible legends sorting out Neils slightly graunchy chain.

The Folkstone tunnel terminal was pretty chaotic on the way out there, we were delayed around 90 minutes from our initial crossing time of 10.50 which was a bit frustrating. The place seemed cataclysmically unorganized, no one really knew what was going on. MattB nearly got nutted by a slightly irate, northern lesbian which lightened the mood

We eventually got loaded onto a train though and got on our way.
Aprilia RSV1000's are known to have pathetically unsuitable sidestands and as soon as the train was moving it was pretty obvious the thing was going to fall over so I spent the entire journey sat on it with everyone else laughing at me

I can only assume they fall over all the time on there as they gave me my own spot miles from everyone else to avoid a domino effect.

Getting out of the terminal the otherside was effortless and we cracked on through France to try and make up a bit of lost time definitely at the speed limit at all times Officier!
We stopped about half way in Saint Omer for a quick rest as it was pretty warm riding through small towns geared up. Nice place.
Hooned the rest of the way to Lille and checked into the Ibis budget hotel we were staying in where we met up with Matt, Chris Liam and Adam. Budget being the keyword. I've stayed in an Ibis budget before and it wasn't as bad as Lille's offering, it was just an F1 with an en suite. Certainly wasn't the fucking ritz. I opened the window in our room and it smelt of paddy arse and there were dead rats everywhere.
Once everyone was suitably refreshed we strolled down to KFC (who didn't have gravy, fuck living in a country where KFC don't offer gravy. No wonder everyone hates the French)
I'm not entirely sure who's idea it was to eat a shittonne of fast food before a heavy karting session but that's the way it went down. We walked back to the karting centre ready to completely obliterate ourselves and all around us which we did with a vigour and passion last seen on the beaches of Normandy in 1944. We went in hard and fast and no one held back. The bar was set high from the off and Dan cleaned up in the first 2 sessions we did. We were drinking inbetween each session which ended up improving laptimes as the night went on.
I feel this onboard screenshot perfectly sums up the chaos.

Here is a link to the First session onboard. I will upload the rest later.

We decided to do a 3rd session later in the evening after the sun had gone down. It was basically the singapore grand prix with the addition of inebriation and tinted visors.
Dan ended up going even quicker filled with Hoegarden and left us all for dead. The motivation for the 3rd round was the opportunity to have a go in the faster karts. The one stipulation was you had to have done a sub 50 second lap in the slower karts in order to qualify. Dan cleaned up with a 49.7 and ended up jumping in a the fast group. Was very entertaining watching him hooning round one handed throwing the horns up with the other \../
Once the karting excitement was over we retired to the bar where Steve tried his best to chat up the quite wonderful barmaids with his best spanish/french/gibberish efforts. He didn't succeed.
GRONDAAAYY STELLA POR FAVOOOR!!
We awoke the next day slightly delicate and forced down a very disappointing poverty spec breakfast. Dan and Paddy took forever to surface so we took the opportunity to hide Dans CBR behind the building opposite. It took a herculean effort moving it with the steering lock on #worthit
Once everyone stopped being dead we headed off on another hoon towards our destination for the day.

Our destination was a musuem called La Coupole. It's an old V2 launch site/bunker buried in the side of a hill The place was pretty mega, full of interesting stuff and quite eye opening. We spent a good few hours wondering around taking it all in. Definitely worth a visit if that sort of thing is your jam. 8 euros fiddy to get in so cheap too.

After the museum visit we headed off for home run back to the tunnel. Much like the first crossing it was mad busy. Not quite as bad though, we all managed to get on the same train and made our way back to the UK.

All in it was an incredible weekend with incredible people as always. I rate it Mega/10.
I'm going to end this writeup the only way I know how, with a picture of matt stroking his helmet

Which Helen had to go back for, as I left it on the desk in the room. Fortunately because someone was late out and we had to wait for them, there was time to go back for it! ____________________ Currently: Yamaha DT 125 LC2,Repsol Fireblade, and Bumblebee MSX 125 |

I added some pics to the "where you been thread" when I got back......after falling asleep in a chair for 2 hours, was battered!

Not the greatest of pics, but for some reason I had the shakes and both camera + operator were struggling with focus. |
