Subframe bolted on, it looks square but some new threads need to be welded on for the regulator rectifier. Then blast and zinc.

Ok well I got carried away ... and bought another engine.
Its an unknown 'runner' with 40K on the clocks but in quite good condition, for only £120.
Coupled with my old engine (clutch problems) I should be able to make a good race engine and a back up if needed, once I've rebuilt them.

Here they both are
https://i475.photobucket.com/albums/rr119/Timon1983/VFR%20nc30%20trackbike/IMG_1045.jpg

Here is the state of my old engine which has been sat for far too long

Got the heads off the 'new' engine, all seems ok, no scores in the barrells, quite polished but can still just see the hone. Piston crowns were quite black so they got scrubbed. Cams and followers are showing their age but nothing to concern me. Just need some head gaskets and it will get put back together, check/adjust valve clearances, then the overall engine clean.

For anyone interested in how the nc30's are marked up for timing.

The gaskets arrived aswell as some new bolts while I was away racing so set about rebuilding the top end as soon as I got back.

New bolts
https://i475.photobucket.com/albums/rr119/Timon1983/VFR%20nc30%20trackbike/IMG_1173.jpg

Head gaskets
https://i475.photobucket.com/albums/rr119/Timon1983/VFR%20nc30%20trackbike/IMG_1175.jpg

Motor all torqued and lubed up ready for final clean and install, might paint it, not sure yet. The timing has been double checked as well as the valve lash (which was all ok).
https://i475.photobucket.com/albums/rr119/Timon1983/VFR%20nc30%20trackbike/IMG_1178.jpg

While it was all apart I made some drawing for some special tools to make life easier when tuning the other motor. The inlet ports are rough as standard too, lots of casting marks to be taken out

Keeping your shims and buckets in order, I'd guess.

I'm gonna say valve clearances/shim organisation (not sure if it's the correct terminology) Looks great though, I'd like one!

Whilst making a mount for the HRC rad overflow bottle for my other VFR I thought it best to make two. Its made from stainless steel and then bead blasted to get a matt finish.

So now I have one for this race bike too, there is enough pipe left over, just need to buy another bottle.
