My short Morocco trip.

After being pestered by Colin1 heres some photos from my trip to Morocco back in feb this year, not really one for doing trip reports though heres a summary.

Finsihed work on friday the 19th of february and rode from london to the euro tunnel were at 8.00pm l arrive in france from there l rode for over 24 hours through snow and temps of -7 degrees to get to Almeria in spain were l took a 8hr ferry to Nador in Morocco from there l traveled south to the Sahara desert and rode along the Algerian border through the desert for 3 days on a very rarely traveled route around 50-100 miles from the nearest villages.

After my stint in the desert were l was amazed that my big old BMW managed the bloody awful terrian and heat (bash plate and engine bars were priceless) l came across two french KTM riders who lead me to the town of Erfoud and showed me about also got some good footage of the BMW crossing a river into the town and up a embankment.

From here l was advised by Chris the KTM rider who had been riding Morocco and west Africa on and off for the past 20 years not to even try the south western route by my self due to the very deep sand so from there l rode down south and saw the dunes at Merzouga and traveled offroad to Zagora then north around the Atlas mountain routes and headed home via the shorter crossing at tanger, once again blasted home in 24 hours. total trip time came to just under 2 weeks.

Was bloody good fun, nice country and very friendly locals just need a lighter bike or a wingman to go with me next time Thumbs Up

Would very much like to do a trip like this.

Looks very far out, were you doing tyre changes, etc yourself or was it on the fringe of civilisation?

Awesome pictures!

My brother has a R100GS, in Marakesh red at the moment. He fitted the TKC80's as well, moving from road tyres, and he finds that they make higher speed (65+) road riding uncomfortable - notable weave and vibration through the steering - did you notice that?

No problem on mine the only time l,ve had problems with the steering weaving was on the way across europe to Ukraine and that was down to the headstock bearings being too tight.

Love your pictures they brought back many memories for me. Granted when I went on my bike I didn't quite go off road as much as you did but I had a great time there.

The locals were very friendly especially when I came off my bike at traffic lights (braking too hard).

Any chance of a quick Google map of your route?

Got too admit 24 hours non-stop riding has never impressed me as beneficial... which is why I still haven't done the trip. I will be shipping mine down to Spain then flying down to pick it up and get a couple more days on the piste Very Happy

Great ride though and great shots and the Chris you met , was that Chris Scott!?!
