like i said in the first post, my budget is 600 quid. hopefully less.

with fi, you can knock 100 quid off straight away, cos you dont need a fuel pump ( 60 quid ) or a malpassi regulator ( 40 quid )

You see this really interests me, because i got my VTR cheap as fudge and i really want to keep it, so turboing it when i'm going to be fitting MCCT's and i have a dynojet kit i haven't fitted yet.
I'd love to have a go at welding and fabricating up some stuff, i know someone with a lathe and stuff so should be simple.
Where can i find info on working out what i need?

err..

well, ive already spent like nearly 100 quid on books about the subject.

and spent about 3 months planning and doing maths / drawing stuff.

i imagine a v twin would be epic to turbo, due to the routing of pipework and uneven exhaust pulses.

also, because you've got 2 totally separate cylinders, you've got to buy everything twice.

i'm not saying its impossible, but to do it on the cheap would be very hard.

if you've got loads of money, it makes the whole thing loads easier.

planning is key though, the project will fail if you just decide to do it one weekend, and go out and buy stuff and try welding it all together.

personally, I wouldn't bother, id sell it, buy a cheap 1127 or bandit and work on that.

much easier said than done.

for example.

ebay 2" stainless tubing and bends. your talking 15 quid for a 90 degree bend, it adds up, quickly.

then you'd have to modify the fuel tank, because the inlets are hidden inside the frame.

Following with interest. I have an emerald ecu knocking around somewhere and keep getting tempted to turbo my zxr. Ime the 2 hardest bits are finding someone willing to do small bits of fab on the cheap and jetting the carbs. If someone can weld/knows a friendly welder and is going the FI route then it's fairly straight forward.

If someone fancies giving it a go wants to learn more the best 2 books bar none are these

As long as the turbo seals are good and the crank case is vented well it will work ok. Not ideal obviously but sometimes you've got to work with the space you've got.

Just wondering why there are not many Turbocharged bikes??
Is it because of the change of handling characteristics or increase in torque ???any way there must be a reason.Good luck with your project m8 Thumbs Up

You could try a supercharger, less engineering

its expensive, it will eat consumables ( rear tyres ect) its quite complicated to diy, it will probably remove the nice smooth power / torque curve.

also, if everyone did it, it wouldn't be special.

opposite.

more engineering, it needs to be more accurate and super chargers are more expensive.

For a good supercharger build, have a look for the VFR800 project, wicked read it is.

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/turbo/IMG_3314Medium.jpg

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/turbo/IMG_3313Medium.jpg

ill weld the shaft into the bush, when i get some stainless tig rods.

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/turbo/IMG_3315Medium.jpg

then weld the penny to the housing, im gonna go the scrappy and pick up an old turbo to practice on, to make sure it doesn't just crack or something.

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/turbo/IMG_3316Medium.jpg

thats it for today, still waiting on the guy about the headers.

any ideas / suggestions for welding stainless to cast welcome.

Exactly what I did mate Thumbs Up

Works a treat, and its minimal work! Although I think we actually took the rod off the penny, so there was room to weld the penny in to place, then cut the rod down, and welded it in separately. I asked my friend where it was so I could take a picture for you, but he said he thinks he threw it away, which is a bit of an arse! At first we just locked the penny down with some wire, but it bent open, not suprising with 28psi running through it!

Also mate, I have a gasket exactly the same bolt pattern as that, with some locking washers and bolts if you would like it for free?

then tried filing it off, got sore arms and bored after like 30 seconds, so came in and marked the bit i want with tipex, ill take it college and run round the shape with a vertical mill.
