I'm going to do a rebuild getting it exactly how I want it. I still have alot of spares from my old zxr days and I'm probably just going to chuck my original ZXR engine in as the headgasket was done only about 1000 miles before it was taken off the road.

I'm also going to look at a way of using vinyl to break up the green!

That bike is gorgeous. Proper clean & tidy example too.

Will be keeping an eye on this for sure.

Personally I wouldn't do too much to break the green up besides maybe sticking some Kwak decals on it. What plans have you got in mind for the vinyl?

The bars sit in a normal place and you don't catch your arms or hands.

The photo looks like it close but its just the way the photos come out with the handlebards turned to one side.

The frame from my first ZXR, its currently assigned with a private plate that I'm going to remove. Fr some stupid reason it must be MOT'd to do this so thats the plan....

I remember you buying your old bike back after the person you sold it to crashed it? What happened to it since then? I can't seem to remember what you did to it cos you were on a ZX12R for a while weren't you?

Yes.

The paperwork was just being done to remove the plate when he crashed it. As he decided he didn't want it then I bought it back, sold most of the bits but kept the engine and frame. The DVLA told me this was enough to remove the numberplate but it turned out it wasn't!

I then bought a zx12r, had it for a year but turns out I've grown up too much since the days I really wanted one, It's just too fast for road use.

Plan is to get the numberplate off then swap back to the frame that came with the bike when I bought it.

Man, it's well weird. I can't believe it's been almost 6 years and you've come full circle on yourself. It'll be nice to see the bike as a project because we've seen plenty NC30's rebuilt and resurrected that It would be nice to see another iconic 400 restored (hopefully it wouldn't look ANYTHING as garishly tarty as the old purple!)

There's still 1 purple bolt in the frame, rounded off so I couldn't get it out. Might have to get the drill out, that or keep it as a reminder.

I've run out of things to do now until I make a tool to remove the clutch basket and get a delivery of parts (fork seals etc)

Bit of a delay but I've been lazy and busy.

2 Year and 360 days later.... The ZXR was MOT'd last week and passed first time.

I've now started to add the vinyl to break up the overwhelmingly large amount of green!
The side has been done and I'm very happy with it.

Other than replacing the Ninja sticker (as it is not a ninja!) I now have the number boards to do. The front is very simple but I'm undecided on what shape for the rear....

Longer term I plan to add a cowl which the number board will continue onto. I'm still basing it on the above ZX7R.

Looks like a nice clean example, I vote for option 1. Did you polish the frame, and if so how long did it take?

I did polish the frame... about 8 years ago!

It took a fair few hours but the result was very good. It now needs a going over again as its been untouched for 5-6 years.

I've just finished the boards and I went option 1, mainly because it was easier!

Only got the front numberboard to do but I need to order more vinyl ( I messed up 1 rear numberboard so my precise ordering went out the window!)

Contemplating a small ZXR400 decal on the rear number board. Either way, I'm very pleased with how it looks considering how green it was!
