It sure looks cool, I nearly bought one, then I was told the engine ran so hot, the petrol was evaporating from the 2nd carburetor, so the engine ran on 2 cylinders only which was the reason of the seizing issues. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

I had one in the same colours and the previous owner had ridden it in local production races. His Dad designed exhausts for a living and had made his son a pair for this particular bike and ported the barrels. It was a well known bike and wherever I went in the area, people recognised it. In standard form, it was a noticeably different beast to the later models and mine was an RD250E beater, on acceleration and top speed No mean feat as bikes had moved on quite a bit the the intervening years. Bad points were a front brake that would lock on with no warning in the wet, very noisy top end, (but they go best when "rattly"), soggy suspension, heavy spark plug attrition rate, light front end. The bloke I sold mine on to managed to, quite literally, wrap it around a lampost within a matter of days .................. it stayed there, chained up at the side of the road for ages ____________________ Space Is Deep |

Aye...I remember it...you should have got it However, there are subtle differences between the S1 and KH.
I'm with you on the parts being a bit of a nightmare....that's '70s classic bikes for you. To make it worse, some people go around buying all the old stock up, which is good in a way, as it gets it all in one place but the prices tend to sky-rocket. ____________________ Space Is Deep |

I think we got to a point, where people wouldn't buy two strokes over four strokes anymore. I mean yes, a two stroke sport bike 250cc+ engine etc. cool, but I'm talking about a CBR 125, two stroke variant.
The only two stroke I could ride for a longer period of time, was my mates MZ 151 ETZ. It does 100kph, the traveling is rather comfortable, but when you start thinking about what the motorcycle is, and that it does ''only'' 50 mpg and what other motorcycles with 50 mpg can do, you come to a conclusion that it's a fun motorcycle to have, not to ride though.
I do believe a ''modern'' 250cc+ two stroke sport motorcycle would be a completely different experience. But that's terrible mpg + expensive parts. Not even talking about what people ask for road legal 250cc two strokes these days.
I will buy a classic bike again, but I'm not sure it will be a two stroke. Well, if I get my hands on a 40's/50's CZ, then it does not matter. You can buy brand new Czech made parts for nearly nothing for the ''classic commie bikes''.
Thinking of it, a KR-1S or a KR250 would be a must have. Just because cool and Kawasaki. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ
