When different manufacturer's tyre wear is compared we consider miles until legal minimum 1mm bikes.
FOr example, I was getting about 6000 on one make of tyre but almost half of that on a different make.

I put that down to different compounds.

Is there any where to compare mileage from New fitted Tread Depth to Legal Minimum?
Do some tyres start with deeper tread than a comparative tyre

Has anyone ever had the anal-ness to compare?

Tyres do have different tread depths. I recall one of the Avons (Azaro ST perhaps) having a whopping 7mm.

Oh and ignore the chicken strips... lol I've had the pegs scraping a few times and it still seems to have the bobbles on either side of the tyre Sad

I find even the same model of tyre in a different size can have varying depth, even a different tread pattern.

For instance, the BT45 on my XJ750 had maybe 4mm of tread when new, and the front on my NTV had about 5mm left when I bought it. The tread patterns are completely different as well.
