I do have to say, this is rather tempting.

But the underseat exhaust is staying regardless :p

There has been a bit more progress, all be it a little slower than I would have liked over the last couple of days.

After cleaning the bottom yoke, it didn't do it for me. The lacquer was shit and it just didn't come up as well as I'd hoped. So I found an old can of gloss black paint and some lacquer from a while ago that I thought I'd use up. Came out pretty well. So I started with this before cleaning:

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130608_210506.jpg

Then in the middle of painting:

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130608_222428.jpg

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130608_222449.jpg

And done:

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130608_222455.jpg

So I then decided that I'd work through the pile of bits on the floor and basically clean everything up. That way I could create of box of bolts and bits that needed to be send off to be blasted and coated.

Here is the pile of crap on the floor:

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130610_151924.jpg

Then a few bits cleaned and ready to go back on the bike:

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130610_151937.jpg

Another sneaky peek at my yokes (which I'm rather pleased with)

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130610_151944.jpg

And engine mount that's grotty as hell. This gives you an idea of what I'm trying to work with and why cleaning stuff takes so long!

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130610_152011.jpg

I stripped the rest of the loom off the bike and the thermostat and hoses as well so that's ready to be cleaned for painting. I was going to try and stick with the original Suzuki colour so I'm going to have to do a bit of digging I think. I'm also tempted to take this along with all the fairing to my great uncle for painting as he's fantastic at it!

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130610_152038.jpg

Again here you can get an idea of what I'm trying to deal with:

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130610_153126.jpg

Few bolts and stuff laid out, just took a picture so I can remind myself what some of the bolts look like from the different places on the bike:

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130610_182223.jpg

The rear caliper:

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130610_182604.jpg

The amount of corrosion behind the seals is a joke. Getting the pistons out was near impossible. Even with 100psi on the back of one of the pistons it still wasn't moving, so I resorted to a hammer. I've cleaned the seal grooves up now and they've come up okay. I just need to clean the rest of the calliper up and they're ready for the new seals, pads and pins when they arrive.

So by the end of the day this was my little pile of bits (slowly getting there):

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130610_182614.jpg

I then decided to tackle the subframe. I don't really know why I chose to do it tbh, but it was a big part of the bike, and I want to have all the framey stuff done first. I cleaned it up but it didn't come up very well tbh. I decided to paint it and see if it looked any better.

So before, doesn't really show how crap it looked very well:

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130610_182649.jpg

and after:

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130610_225938.jpg

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130610_225949.jpg

It's not come out to bad. The silver is a little darker than I'd have liked. I used 2 different paints to paint it. The first was a more natural colour which was hardly different to the material colour and I preferred that. But I ran out of that colour and have no idea where to get any more so finished it off with a different paint and it was a slightly darker silver. Looks good none the less and has come up well. I'll probably lacquer this too to protect the paint.

I pulled the thermostat and hoses off, and they aren't looking to good. I already knew the cooling system was a bit grotty, but this is by far a lot worse than I expected. The outside of the thermostat housing is actually rotting away, so I've ordered a new housing with thermostat. You can see what I was dealing with here:

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130610_152030.jpg

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130610_230030.jpg

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130610_230041.jpg

And my little box of bits:

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130610_230050.jpg

I've also got on and ordered two new radiators from china plus a load of other bearings, seals and bits which will be here soon so I can start to work on some of the other stuff.

Overall it's not looking to bad at the moment and I'm happy with how it's going.

Should have some tasty bits for the bike coming my way in the next couple of days too, but I won't say what in case it falls through!

Also got a fair bit of work this week, and they're shit shifts as well which means I won't be able to do much on this. On the plus side, it does mean I'm now earning money again which will help the cash flow and mean I can start to buy some cool stuff for this Smile

My order from Wemoto arrived the other day, and so Friday I cracked on with doing some more. Progress wasn't fantastic though to be honest.

New stuff:

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130613_233139.jpg

In there was:

Two throttle cables
Choke cable
Swingarm Bearing set
Rear wheel bearing set
Front bearing set
K&N Recharge kit
Rear pads
Rear pad pins and clips
Stainless bleed nipples for rear callipers.

I managed to change the swingarm bearings out without any dramas, so that's good. They're done now. The wheel bearings however didn't go so well, to the point where I need two new bearings for the front to replace the new ones I destroyed Laughing. Nothing major. Just a little school boy error. There are two bearings lips in the wheel and an axle that go through the middle of the wheel, I was hitting the bearings up to the lips but it seems the axle protrudes past the lips, so you have to hit the bearings up to the axle. I didn't know, carried on hitting and umm well broke the bearing Laughing. But it's only £10 to replace them so not to much of a costly mistake!

The rear calliper has had the new seals fitted and feels lovely. I just need to get the bolts that hold the two halves together coated before it can be fully rebuilt but that's a 15 mins job to get that all re-assembled. It's come up well:

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130614_151829.jpg

I took the discs off the front and cleaned them up, two of the rivets on one disc are loose though, is this okay? Other than that they look okay.

Discs before cleaning:

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130614_165853.jpg

Sprocket carrier and axle and all that I took out too are pretty grotty.

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130614_165902.jpg

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130614_165859.jpg

Wheel before cleaning:

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130614_165849.jpg

I didn't really get many photos, will hopefully do some more today. I want to get the front and rear wheels sorted, and then I'll start on some more of the pile that needs to be done! Plus I'll get the photos of all the other stuff cleaned up too. I need to persuade my mum to let me use the dishwasher Laughing

i wouldnt go back to standard,
myself id put a single bandit/gs500 headlight on, which will hide alot of the wiring inside,
and probably go for a low level buel/er6 exhaust and belly ban,
high level cans are rarely done well, yours is a example of this,
but keep up the good work reguardless

I've not really decided on the styling yet. That bit is quite flexible. Main focus is just to get everything sorted first and rebuild and I can make alterations later. Like I said I'm keen for ideas and I like your suggestions so I will deffo consider them!

Progress wise I dropped the wheels down the road to be fitted with some scrubs, they'll get the bike through the MOT, they won't last long but will at least give me time to see if I like the bike. The guy said he'll also do my wheel bearings for me after I butchered the other ones free of charge. He's a good mate of mine so is pretty sound when it comes to things like that and always gives me a good deal on stuff.

I also forgot to mention I went and picked up these the other day:

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130617_180105.jpg

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130617_180112.jpg

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130617_180120.jpg

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130617_180126.jpg

A complete front brake assembly off a 2011 ZX10R. Master cylinder, braided lines and callipers for £100 can't be complained at. I'm also on the look out for some new forks to complete the front end swap and give me radial brake mounts, but trying to find K9 GSXR 1000 forks or Hayabusa 2008 on forks at a good price that aren't damaged is proving difficult.

The callipers will just be stripped and cleaned and I'll buy some new pads. Any recommendations on pads? Something a bit better than EBC HH.

I also bought some new bearings for the dog bone today, but there are two bearings I'm having trouble getting hold of. I can buy them on wemoto for £27 each, but there are two and that's ridiculous for a dog bone!

I've also looked through what's left to clean and sort. There isn't a hudge amount. Time is just a bit scarce at the moment with me working full time weeks and finishing at 10pm.

For pads I'd go with Brembo Red compound every time.

Keep the forks, buy some adapters. They work well for the radial set up and a damn site cheaper than a whole new front end.

I'll look up those pads, cheers.

In the grand scheme of things, it's only about £100 to get some new forks.

The adapters are £100 alone, plus the forks that are there need a referb. That's another £50 for seals and oil. I should be able to source some GSXR or Hayabusa forks for £250 ish which are a direct swap meaning the conversion has only cost £100 which isn't to bad.

And buying new forks means I can sell the old ones.

Well that was my thoughts on the whole thing anyway.

They arent a direct swap, you need to shim the forks out in the top yoke, shim the brake disks and have spacers made up for the front wheel. Good luck in finding cheap forks, I have been trying for 2 years to find some decent sub £250 ones.

K9/K10 GSXR 1000 or 08- Onwards Hayabusa forks are a direct swap without the need for shimming in the yoke. They have the same upper and lower fork dimensions as the TL ones. Yes you need disc spacers, but they are $25 off a guy on the TL zone forum. Wheel spacer wise, a hayabusa spindle and spacers is sufficient.

Here is the details:

https://www.tlzone.net/forums/frequent-tl-mods/119417-alternative-radial-fork-chart.html

I will keep an eye out for the duration of the project. If it get's to the point where it's stopping the bike from being ridden, I'll just get the adapters.

Picked up the wheels today with the new bearings and tyres fitted. Pretty pleased for £70 all in! The paint is flaking off a bit on the wheels. But it's not the end of the world. I might get them re-painted at some point in the near future but they're fine for now.

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130619_162946.jpg

Bit cooked on the edges but they'll be fine for the road.

I also got a picture of all the stuff that's cleaned up or re-painted and ready to go back on the bike. (Getting there now)

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130619_163042.jpg

Next day off is Friday so will hopefully get through the rest of the stuff that needs cleaning.

Little update.

I never took a photo of the bearings I was pulling off stuff. Well here is one out the rear wheel Laughing

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130620_170317.jpg

They were all fucked but this was by far the worse.

Popped home in my lunch break to a box with lots of chineese writing on it which could only mean one thing...... My radiators were here Very Happy.

https://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/0l0dom0l0/20130620_170515.jpg

Very pleased, they made the journey and there is only one bent fin in the 2 radiators. The quality looks fantastic considering the price and I didn't get stung with any import charges as well! Chuffed to bits with them, so much so I might have to buy a new rad for my FZ6 as it's a bit fucked from where I crashed lol. So obligatory pictures:

Look great!

I might get some Samco hoses, but the set for the TLR is £150 odd. I'm tempted to measure the diameter of the different pipes I need and just buy some pipe and make the kit myself but you need 9 different hoses in total! It's a bit mad.

Also going to try and source some nice new jubalie clips.

More cleaning will continue later after I get back from my date Razz, unless it goes really well of course Wink.
