Basically just had BT/TalkTalk engineer here installing my interwebs, normal adsl stuff, no fibre here Sad

Currently I'm full steam ahead with 1.4mb down and 0.5 up, my router tells me downstream kbs is 518 and upstream is 2022, however this defo doesn't reflect, even if it did I would be crying Neutral

They say wait until the evening/tomorrow morning so BT Openreach have a chance to make the line live etc however am posting this on said connection so its "on" but she babbled about some tweaks need doing etc.

Anyone here know the exact details of what happens from a new line install, I dont do adsl Sad neither does my voip phone currently Laughing

It normally take overnight not really sure why but they are usually faster after a day or so.

Check if you have a NTE5 socket, those filtered faceplates are meant to be the dogs.

Do you have the correct username and password for the router and not the default one? I got a new line installed and was slow and i called up and the router username was wrong so was set to wrong profile.

It usually gets faster over a few hours then eases down a bit after a day or two - finding a point where stability v speed is optimised.

To check for interference, whip off the faceplate and plug your router into the socket directly behind. Thumbs Up

ADSL has a stabilisation period of 10 days.
You'll see a massive difference in the first 3 days, assuming your line is capable of more.
If it's a brand new line - it's possible they weren't able to give you an estimate and it's always going to get poor speed.
Maybe look on Sam Knows and see if you can find how far you are from the nearest exchange. Big distance = slow speeds.

OK, so this isn't happening. My speeds have decreased from 1.2mb to 0.5 now to 0.15 with talktalk setting it to a profile that is 1530 down and 288 up. They can do no more but BT however in the last 2 days have FTTC and FTTP... so am moving to them.

Am I still well within my cooling off period? It was installed 7/8 days ago and has been next to useless. I use my 4G for tethering as its getting 16-18Mb with ease, my home internet cannot buffer a 3 minute 240p video on Youtube in under 20 minutes.... that is fucking shocking.

14 days is the "cooling off" period.

Get on the blower and sort it out.

That should not be allowed unless they can gurantee and engineer to pop by the next day. If I were them, I would just send the engineer after 14 days then.

You bought it but it is not like you could use it until the engineer set it up. Anyone smart know if this would hold in court?

As someone else said there is a 10 day learning period for ADSL, in my experience it always starts high (fast) and the speed will drop depending on line stability so that's why they ask that you leave it on and connected during this period. the More disconnects you have the slower the line gets.

If you put your telephone number into this site it will give you an indicator of what speed you should expect with ADSL.
https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/

Post the results from that checker (edit your telephone number out) so we can see if its accurate or there is anything you can do to improve line speed.
