So every now and again, someone uploads a thread, I bought this bike for a steal or was given one etc. etc. You sit there cursing the screen and thinking how much you hate them.

Karma came my way last week.

After joining some forums and a couple of facebook groups, on a group I had largely ignored as it wasn't as interesting, suddenly had a pop-up. MSX 125 2 Year Old, 3700 Miles £700 in Yellow. Cock in hand became very excited. Messaged the guy a couple of minutes after it went up, told him I wanted it but I need to check the details first. Sometimes (mostly), too good to be true is exactly that. Guy is selling cheap as the shock is a bit rusty and the exhaust is damaged. I have both brand new as I replaced them on my new bike. So already a win. Got all the details and HPI'd, guy told me he paid cash anyway so no finance. HPI all checked out. Bike is in Hull, as Ronnie Pickering will tell you, some parts of Hull are best avoided. The bike was in a nice part of Hull. There was a massive amount of interest, offered him an extra £50 if he kept it for me and didn't mess me about. Fine he said, he was busy working anyway.

Went to collect on Saturday, couldn't believe what I was looking at. Absolutely mint, he advised that there was a bit of rust here and there, particularly on bolts. I had one of the nasty CBF125's so have experience here .... he's used it for two winters. I was struggling to find anything significantly bad. As advised the shock has rust, the exhaust had a few scratches on the end tip where he has caught it on the wall walking it out!

First thing I did, checked the frame number, then he returned with every document including bill of sale and service document. All at the address I was at. At this point I'm trying to contain the grin.

Handed over the cash, jumped on it and rode 20 miles to the coast where I have family. So excited I had to stop and do something quite important I should've done before riding it on the road .....

Checked the trips and he'd never used them, so they both had the same mileage and almost exactly the same as on the odometer from factory.

Completely legit and riding fine. Only problems, creamy oil, and the dipstick was cross-threaded (plastic). I think the brakes may have sticking pistons. The bike is well overdue a service as it only had the 600 miler over 3000 miles ago.

The bike was 250 miles away from home. Aside from the fact 250 miles on a 125 I wasn't relishing, also a bike which I had no idea if it would kersplode with a problem as I didn't know the history. We did this!

The owner very helpfully filled the tank for me, sadly I neglected to remove the fuel for the drive home and some came out the overflow. Sunroof open down the motorway as it was really rather strong. Only damage was a little crack on one of the mounts for the Plastic exhaust shield, which is coming off anyway. Otherwise safely transported.

Where the hell are all of these bargain bikes!

Shockingly good deal though, are you just going to replace the rusty parts and keep it mostly stock or will you be making any changes to it?

There is actually very little rust. The shock is an instant item to replace on these bikes anyway, as they are crap SHOWA mono shock, with zero adjustment. Not even preload!

But I was starting some things on the Repsol, the Repsol will now stay relatively standard. Whereas this one will be played with. I will also be riding this one come rain or shine. Which is why I've ordered replacement tyres as the standard Nylon things are apparently lethal in the wet.

2x Honda MSX's, one Repsol SP winnah with the trick mods and race pipe etc.

The other one a std slightly tatty but still very good clean machine. Oh and an old DT125LC2?

You can see where I'm going with this?
One of them needs to become a 2stroke, as you don't need 2Reliable though fun air cooled 125 thumpers in your life surely? Laughing

2 stroke isn't really an option, but this is ......

https://store.hardracing.com/cart.php?target=product&product_id=31218

Repsol was getting it, but bought the Yellow one instead. Another month or so to save up and the Yellow gets this engine. Repsol going standard-ish

More details on that fast tuned engine required?

I see your logic in having a cheaper MSX to fuck around with and go crazy with too. If it were me though the Blingy Repsol would get the most extreme race tuned everything, and be kept as the sunny day play bike, while the Yellow beast would get less mods and be a daily commuter or workhorse?

Would you ever want to ride the Repsol shiny one, if the Yellow bike ends up with the best motor, suspension and brakes?

Oh and I only suggested two stroke as I thought you might have given up on the DT125, and I thought a 22bhp YPVS engine would be sat around doing nothing except waiting for a fun new home?

Changed the oil. Bike had turned into a chocolate fountain, as the oil was literally brown. 900ml of oil 3000 miles old.

Wow, that's neglected, sure doesn't look like a 3664 miles bike, with all that rust. Confused

That's just the exhaust and the shock. Most of the bike is fine bar a few bolt heads. Also the engine components have been properly painted for once, so haven't peeled. If I'm that bothered I can replace, but it's an awful lot better than my CBF125 was at 9 months.

That was easy compared to what some have done. Someone did the GSX-R in a clio, it's always doing the rounds. That's in a Vauxhall Signum, which is neither hatchback nor Estate.
