Why, oh why oh why?

He's going to d'Antin (the team Toseland just turned down) to ride a a third-rate Ducati with left over parts from the main teams. Can't understand the logic. I can only imagine he must really dislike the World Superbike paddock.

I thought he only went to WSBK cos he couldn't get a GP ride, and he had to pay for the WSBK ride himself?

He's getting on a bit now as well, so maybe looking at only a few more seasons - maybe there's better opportunities after racing in MotoGP?

But he's raced there for something like 16 years (before this season) so it won't make much difference there. I suspect it's more likely...

Well, its not like he is going to get 'last years engine' is it.

So he will be using the same Ducati 800cc motor as the factory guys, only without factory support. And at a guess, possibly a new 07 chassis too to house the new engine as its unlikely to fit in an old chassis. Remember its a totally new engine, and not just a sleved down version of the old one, so would either need a new chassis or alot of modifications to the old chassis.

So, as to your first post Silver, cant really have any left over parts (or last years) from a brand new engine. Wink

I'd say there was a good reason for the decision.

By the way, I'm only guessing what I've written above, but its a good guess dont you think??

Thumbs Up

Can't see the D'Antin team affording a bumper pay day?

I think Toseland did the right thing turning them down but he is going to struggle to get a ride with one of the big factory teams.

Reasonble, except he could possibly expect more problems than if he was using an old, tried and tested engine. He (the team) will be well down the pecking order for new parts, and you can bet your bottom dollar that all of the teams will be changing parts like they're going out of fashion over the first half of the season. The factories will likely be flat out accomodating changes/modifcations to the "big guns". Look at Ellison on the Yamaha - been riding on a year old chassis all season (and complaining about it) whilst Edwards and Rossi get the latest stuff.

Well, apparenlty Toseland gave it some consideration so they can't be too skint.

Absolutely. I'm glad he didn't go. He'd probably have done a couple of years on a crap bike and then gone back to WSB. I think he could make a good team mate (i.e. second rider) in one of the bigger teams. Maybe he's holding out for a Honda ride of some description, hoping to prove himself on a Honda in WSB?

Oh yeah I completely agree, I think he will get the basic 'factory' kit, but not the support or the development.

Even Checca got the new Yam frame halfway through last year but Ellison had to make do with the one that 'didn't work', which was a bit of a shame.
