Okay I know there is a chemical you can buy that cleans all the carbon out of you exhaust, but cant remember the name of it ( Only got told the other day). Although this is not the point . . i want to know if there is any other ways of doing it, with general house hold items E.t.c . .
Or a link to a product would be good.

Mix it up with some water and pour it down and leave ?

I usually use a potato to bung up my exhaust when I'm decoking. I do use caustic soda, it can be purchased in DIY shops in the plumbing bit as it is usually used for cleaning drains.
I refer you here for other methods of decoking: (Don't try this at home kids! )
