I am due an upgrade now and need a new handset

Has to be something available now.

I have a nokia 6230i at the moment and quite like its simplicity and ease of use.

I dont really take that many pictures on my phone so the camera is not massivly important.

I like to text plenty so must have a good dictionary and ease of use that way.

I live in a bad reception area so it needs to be able to hang onto calls better than my 6230i which allways seems to drop calls.

Looks are not really an issue, its more a case of if the phone is any good/easy to use etc.

What do you guys reccomend?

Been looking on review sites at nokia 6280 (I think) and the sony ericcson K800i (guy at work reccomends them as he owns one) and the sony ericsson W810i

I would like Mp3 - a plenty but all these phones do that, advantage to the W810i is it comes with a 512mb memory card.

I looked around when I changed mine a few weeks ago, like the Sony Ericsons but the buttons didn't feel right for texting, same with most of the others, ended up going for another 6230i in the end - it does everything I want it to, and i like the keyboard!

I have the Nokia 6630, alot say its like a brick but its got a great screen for viewing pics and the internet on it,. easy to use like all nokias and has great sound. I think it has mp3 player i never used it but i know you can watch tv on it, karrange and living tv. Also not easy to loose and you can find it in your bag when its ringing unlike them super tiny phones. Camara is great on it to. Also has bluetooth and a memory card.

I have the w810i - Even with the standard memory card I can fit in excess of 120 songs on it - great for if you're out and about and you don't particularly want to take an iPod/MP3 player with you as well as your phone.

Battery life is exceptional although for added life the phone also gives you the ability to purely use it for music with the phone mode off so you've basically got a mini walkman in your pocket.

If I didn't have an ipod I'd just buy a bigger memory card and chuck a load of tunes onto it Thumbs Up

Thanks steve,

I was very interested in this, I dont have an ipod or mp3 player and would rather not be carrying multiple devices around with me.

Battery life is important! I dont want to go away for a couple of days and have to worry about charging my battery with moderate texting use and playing music a lot.

I fancy a W810i (as I cannot get a W850i yet).

But the phone functionality, texting and calls (and holding calls) etc and just how "simple" it is to use is it any good at this? Oh and all the phones I have mentioned have upgradable memory and come with earphones so it wouldnt be the only reason i go for this.

I think you get used to what particular manufacturer you use regularly as their texting functions are all very much the same across any particular product range - I came from a Nokia to a Sony approximately 3 years ago and have stayed with Sony purely for the ease in which the phone functions work in comparison to the Nokia.

Both are easy to use however I've found that the Sony suits the lifestyle of simple technophobe Wink

To precis the aforementioned paragraphs...

It's a piece of piss texting with a Sony Wink

As I said in a similar topic a few days back, Nokia N91. 4gb Hard drive so you can get thousands of mp3's on it, you can also plug normal 3.5mm headphones into it instead of the crappy ones that come with the phone. These two points alone were stong enough reason for me to buy it. I was the same position as you, was either going to get and I-Pod and a small phone, or something that could do both. N91 is better than an I-pod as you can create playlists on the fly (ie on the handset) instead of having to do it in I-Tunes.

Phone also has wi-fi, decent texting, and about every other feature you could wan't from a phone.

I dont want to buy an Ipod either just rather have a mobile phone with 512mb + of memory for a few backstreet boys tracks.

Taken your advice and today went to the carphone warehouse who offered me a Nokia N73 + 512mb card. 1000 texts and 500 mins for £35 a month on vodaphone.

Orange was allways dropping calls so am going to take advantage of the 2 week trial period. If it doesnt work to well I will change providers and try the next ones.

I would never use the 2550 mins that orange offer me and the handsets they would offer me are pish compared to the allmighty nokia! Last month I used just over 830 texts I think. and not that many mins because my phone allways cut off at home.

Evil or Very Mad

But tomorrow I get to collect my new toy, cannot wait. Thumbs Up

Whatever you do don't get a Motorolla 'Razr'. By the sound of your spec you won't go near it anyway.

It looks great, but it's so slow, it takes about a minute to boot up. Takes about 30 seconds to register a single letter in a text. the camera's shite anyway, the menu is simply illogical.

Shite, utter shite.

I know you have made the choice now, but it is the MDA Vario for the win.

Excellent at running pirated tomtom software Whistle , should anyone want to go that way
