As many might remember, I was involved in a fairly serious smash on the 17/10/05, on my way home from work. (since then, only Andy C has managed to top my injuries - well played that man!)

Obviously the usual state of play would be that a producer would be served, and you would dish up your documents in 7 days. As I was in hospital for a month, the PC who helped scrape me up off the road told me not to worry too much about it, and to do it when I could.

Having heard nothing more about it (despite having spoken to them on the phone a month after I came home) I naively decided that they must have checked it on the system, and no longer required my documents in person.
I must add that in my defence, in just over 2 years on 2 wheels, I've never been stopped by the police, so I'm not really au fait with the procedures. Being on heavy-duty opiates for 4 months probably didn't do much to help my razor sharp mind either!

Imagine my surprise when I received a summons yesterday afternoon, for driving without insurance! A mad scramble through all of my old paperwork turned out the stub of a producer - Shit! (although it was marked 'unable to sign' due to me being whacked out on morphine, so I could probably have argued the toss anyway)

As you can imagine, I was having nightmares of me, Mister James, guardian of all that is good and upstanding in this world, on trial in the local beak's dock! Knowing the inertia and petty ways of the criminal justice system first hand, I was terrified at the prospect of being on the losing side of it for a change!

I rang CJU's traffic division this morning, and was put through to a very helpful woman who agreed that it would be stupid to take me to court for driving w/o insurance if I quite blatantly had it, so one quick fax later and she arranged to have it all cancelled for me. A total surprise, I was expecting to have to go to my brief and get him involved.

I can't fault either the court supervisor or the lady who passed me on to her, both friendly, polite and eager to quash this little glitch in my flawless record!

While she didn't have the file in front of her, she also said that the woman who knocked me off will be going to court, and they are waiting to see whether she will be pleading guilty or not before finalising the details of the case.

All in all, a productive morning! (and a lucky escape from my own stupidity!)

Thumbs Up to the Babylon, dey irie by me mon!

What was it like when they weaned you off it after the operation? Aside from shots in my first day or two, I was only on the drip for 36 hours before I asked to have it out. I was fine for a day, but then the day after that I was puking/sweating/moaning for Britain, felt like the worst hangover ever!

Not too bothered about whether the woman gets off or not, apart from where it affects my insurance case! Really don't need for it all to be dragged out so much!

Im glad you had a revlatively uninvolving dealing with the CJU, I am not so lucky.

Last year, coming off Marble Arch onto Edgeware road, a rental mercedes decided to open his ridiculously long door onto me, aparently i went flying though the air like a front flipping superman, either way ambulance was called... but the policeman who attended was not called there he was passing by and a member of SO19 (diplomatic protection i believe). Anyway, minor bruising and a generally lucky escape later i am trying to find the details of the driver at fault. I am put though to the CJU... at which point im told i have to write in to get any info... ok fair enough, i write a letter explaining the details, to which i am told, they are pressing charges against the driver (who is coincidentally not in the country any more... gootta love those rich arabs around edgeware rd) and as such untill the case is resolved i cant have his details to give to my insurers... so im stuck with having to pay the £500 repair bill to get my bike back on the road.... I still havent heard anything after numerous phone calls and letters... I have no love for the police or CJU...
