 |

Hello hello.
Alright then chaps, yesterday I sold my pride and joy (and pain in the neck) TZR 50, got an ok amount of dosh for it, now to find a 125.
im 6ft 2 and almost 14 stone, im into bikes for the long run, not just waiting for a car, after ive done a year on a 125 i'll be doing my DAS.
But the real question is what bike to buy now!?
The CBR for one thing, is out, its tiny, way too small.
Im looking at NSR's, TW125's, Varadero's and well, um? Anything else out there?
I thought i'd found a funky little bike with the TW, way way cheap, really low insurance, nice and big looking, so whats up with it? Varadero is a bit of a dream thanks to the price...
Cheers for any input. Ben |

Check out the trail / supermoto bikes like the yamaha DT125, as they are much more suited for tall people. 125 sports style bikes tend to be very small. ____________________ Rieju MRX 50 Castrol Edition |

The DT comes with a price tag ...
Around 2,500 for the DT125R new AND 2,600 for the DT125X ouch!
The YBR is a good commuter but it does depend on what style you like (sounds more like your looking for a race rep bike.)
If your wanting a cheap bike that you want to gain experience on (as you said you will only keep it a year) and is cheap i would look for an old 125 ....
CG125
RS125 (high insurance for a young or new bikers )
Probley others ... i just cant think of any!!
I would not buy anything new or fancy as you will most likely drop it and it will deprecate a lot
(this is my opinion , it does depend on how much cash you have, don't forget that any cash saved can be spent on a bigger bike later ) ____________________ Dave

Real V Twin, uses GS500 frame so it's a big bike for a 125.
Fastish 4 stroke (About 70mph)
Build quality seems okish.
Parts seem easyish to come by too. |

ive just bought a DT. Plenty decent ones around the £1500 mark. The thing that shocked me was the height of em. Ive seen plenty of commuter style 125's and they are really a bit small. I like the ride position of offroaders. ____________________ 04' DT125RE (run-a-bout) // 89' DT125R (rebuilt + supermoto conversion)

Hi folks,
Pretty much the same situation here, big bloke (6ft 17st), gonna need a big 125!
Looks at quite a few RS125s but they all seem to have been thrashed, crashed or dropped..
Would really like a Honda Varerado but they`re pretty pricey. Any suggestions?
P.S Apologies for thread hijack, this is my first post, and i`ve not looked thru the forum proper yet.....
* and please excuse the typo on vararedo, this is exactly how much I know about these things * |

Varadero Massive and from what i have read on here they are pretty reliable and robust I wouldnt go for a 2 stroke racer. I have had a few and in the end they did my head in with the constant looking after they need . And they are small . I found them uncomfortable and im only 5ft 10in ____________________ Bikes had : BMW F650, suzuki tr50, gt125, SV400, GSXR600 SRAD. Hiya!
I am currently riding an NSR (2001) and find it is quite comfortable most of the time...strain will only set in after quite a long time of riding for me (maybe start feeling it a little bit after about 2 hours). Anyway what I reccomend that you do is try sit on the bikes you are considering as that could be the decider! You will be able to get an idea of how you fit and how you feel on the bike.
I am about 6ft tall and seem to fit well. Although I do weigh a little bit less than you
Also I do believe that the ride height/handle bar position of the NSR125 (and therefore the RS125) is higher than the sports 400's (VFR 400 etc...)
Also, the DTR is quite tall bike. Here is some comparison pics showing my NSR and Type_Mo's DTR (actually it is just an excuse for me to put up some pics );
