You'll have difficulty finding a 400cc bike that hasn't got blown pistons/engine already

A popular mod in Japan was to turbo zxr250's maybe that setup is worth looking at.

yeah i can find one in good nick, everyone seems to stick turbos on there r1s and r6s but a 400 is not that common to find a turbo fitted. would be a good thing to have a write up in a magazine, unless someone else has done it before.

That because its worth doing to an R6 or an R1, hardly worth the effort with a 400's fragile engine. Just buy a bike with a bigger engine. Wink

To be honest Ross, learn how to ride it smooth & fast, you'll gain so much more than whacking a turbo on a bike, then think about getting yourself on a trackday.

What makes you think 400's are fragile?

And a bigger bike is not always the answer. Thumbs Up

YEs you can do it, no it aint cheap, not cheap at all.

You would need to adjust the compression, ignition, timing, port, flow custom exaust system, then an tiny turbo, then many many days setting it all up on a dyno.

expect to pay around £4500 in custom parts if your going to do it all yourself. double that if you expect to be able to drop it into a garage and have them do it all for you.

Turbo a ZXR250 WOW! Thumbs Up Mr. Green Ain't heard that before. Learn to ride safely on the road and it'll let you ride fast. Don't waste money on turbo, just get a faster bike. I feel my 250 will be more than a match for most bikes in corners, which is where i make up ground. My bike's kitted with all the powerbands in each carbuerettor as well.

Hi

Problem is finding a small enough turbo for a 400. Not impossible but do expect to have to use a large enough turbo to mean you get massive amounts of lag.

And to do the job properly will mean replacing pistons to reduce the compression.

All the best

Keith

People rarely put turbos on 600s. Why? Because they can just buy a 1000 which is pretty much the same size and handling, but already with 50% extra power.

Putting one on a 400 would be a complete waste of money if you want it for the results - much cheaper to buy a decent powered bike in the first place.
