Well today gav and paul bless them, come to set up my carb well lots of smoke later i broke down again, the bike used about 1 litre of oil and just refused to work. So setting up the carb changed to a total engine rebuild lol. Heres some pics.

LOL @ the 3rd pic .

Your piston doesn't look to bad - as for a litre of oil Shocked

Try turning the pump down - if you've split the carb as well mate it won't work right unless you replaced the gasket - mine was the same & just sucked in loads of air .

also the reason why it's smoking is because it's getting too much oil , other than being there , isn't much else i can advise .

Good news though -test on 7th Laughing if i pass i'll come up and have a butchers

I've got a really great idea...

Only let people who know what they are doing work on your scooter.

Yeah controversial isn't it.

Cool

Your point is? Razz

Because mine is they didn't set the idle CO2 to 3.5% to establish a baseline so anything after that is just pointless.

Let me guess fitting a more free flowing air filter? Laughing

i think sickpup is probably right however its not always easy to tell who knows what they are doing.

Even some professional mechanics who should know what they are doing can fuck things up.

I guess sickpup knows this. My point is, firefox isnt necessarily gonna know who knows what they are doing. Im not sure I do really. I have used a few mechanics and I only know which are the ones I wouldnt take a bike to again.

Fucked up a few bikes in my time. Trick is to admit it, pay for it and learn from it.

Ask a dyno operator what happens to the air pressure around a bike in motion.

Then ask what happens to the air pressure in the airbox of a bike in motion.

Then ask them why they set the bike up to run slightly rich?

That'll wind them up something rotten.

So this time their work may have contributed.

Did they set the CO2 level to 3.5%?

First I'm not bitchin (init).

Second I know what I'm doing and they need to set the idle mixture correctly or nothing else will be spot on.

Third why do you need to rejet the carb.

Fourth and this is a guess. It worked ok for 10-20 minutes getting progressivly worse yes?

Running rich.

Fifth since when has carburation been a 5 minute job?

Looking forward to the post in the workshop. Rolling Eyes

Hi, I have owned a few malaguti's in the past f12's and f15's. They were all a complete pain in the arse every single one of them! However I had them all set up eventually and the one I decided to kit out was pulling 14bhp with a mild tune set up. Just wondering why you are re-jetting? also if you need any help feel free to PM me, Dan Thumbs Up

He tried to rejet it himself the shop sold him completely the wrong jets. The first time i worked it on it I ASSUMED he would have cleaned carb properly and thouroughly etc. After i worked on it he then cleaned the carb and that is why it stopped working again. I had the mix set about right and it was runnign great he cleaned the carb out then it went rich as hell. So i went back yesterday and looked at it and i also found it the engine is so coked up that when i ran some cleaner through the engine would backfire and spit massive clumps of crap and carbon out and also the spark plug blackens in minutes. So i thought it would be better to clean everythign out carb, engine, cooling system, all the lines really and then start again. The bike has a few problems apart from mix being wrong. Roger has fitted a new water pump so thats one less to look at but it has missing/badly damaged gaskets, badly rusted internals from using tap water in the cooling system, lots of hose clips missing/damaged, a dodgy earth on battery. Everytime we set the mix somewhere near and take it for a run something else causes a problem. So we decided to fix EVERYTHING before we even look at the mix again, not a fun job.

I'm suprised I actually managed to balance in the 3rd picture because Roger was making me laugh.

Well, we got the bike working a few few times but little things kept popping up.

It was a good laugh, Roger is a good host and his mother was relentlas in asking if we wanted a pizza or kebab because we were their nearly all day, lol.
