Jeez! Shocked . I can't remember the last time a pedestrian walked out in front of me, but yesterday I had three! The North Circular in London was particularly bad on its western section and at a particular junction, I was filtering over the lights (which were green) when this woman darted out in front of me - there are good brakes on a Faser! Further down the road a guy was trying to cross four lanes of traffic & to avoid him I had to swerve Evil or Very Mad , then later after I had come off the main road and was by Brent Cross station another random person just stepped into the road, oblivious of the traffic - this time there was precious little room to manouvre & as I whisked past him I was able to smell his breath Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

I've also noticed that the number of drivers using mobiles while driving has increased siginificantly over the past few months with the resultant 'lane wobble' and general inattention to driving! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

there was a big fuss about this on the news yesterday , what it involved was this:

26YO guy doing 50MPH in a 40 , undertaking another car , and a granny stepped out without looking target fixated on a bus she wanted to catch and was killed ,result? , banned for 18 months and fined £250.

the family was disgusted at the lenient punishment,

But then she DID step out without looking and he would not have been able to stop @ 40MPH anyway in time.

I dont care what anyone says, race cans save lives.
id rather they hear me comming and take note, then not hear me at all and pull out on me or for a pedestrian walk out, both could be fatal.

And Ram_doom, im not surprised he flinched, he's a BMW driver, they have big cars to componsate for their lack of a large cock and balls, so he flinched because he was quite cleary a typical BMW driver, a fucking pussy Laughing

All it takes is one speccy twat with his ipod turned up too loud to interfere with the whole 'loud cans save lives' thing.
(I speak from personal experience - although i have to say the stupid twat didn't die, he just whacked into the mirror and then bounced off my shoulder, finally he turned a natty pirouette and sat down at the side of the road with a surprised look on his face)

Whilst it's rant at pedestrians time, the ones that really feck me off are the ones that cross a side road without looking, just as you are turning into that side road. I know they have right of way, but they could at least fucking look!

Oh yeah, and the other wankers are the ones that walk up to a pedestrian crossing on a quiet bit of road, press the button on the crossing, and then look to see if it's clear to cross.

Rant over.

Mad

Is it wrong to ride in 6th gear at low revs but at about 30mph to run over pigions?

I've had plenty of chavs jump out on me on purpose to try and make me fall off or swerve or something. I never try and avoid them, if anyone's getting hurt it's them, scummy bastards. Middle Finger

Havent had any normal people walk out in front of me close enough for me to slam the brakes. One or two where I've had plenty of time to slow down and redline it, it's fun scaring them. Very Happy

That doesnt count the drunks you have to dodge late night at the weekend, you know they're going to be about so you're already ready for them.

the question is though what would happen in a bike vs chav incident?

bikes are pretty gyroscopically stable ie you can hang off the side of the bike and it'll stay up , but 180kilo + 50kilo ride @ 30MPH vs 50 kilo chav what would happen? ,

hitting a chav / falling off near chavs = death,

is it really worth it considering if you do hurt him to add insult to injury your taxes will have to pay his disability for the rest of his life.

its like planes where wings hit the water you'd expect the wing to cut through the water or that bit of wing to be hacked off but it doesn't the entire plane cartwheels.

I don't think you would fair well, but then neither would the chav.

Have you seen the video of the biker hitting the deer? He properly crashes.

Yeah, they are great High Viz jackets for motorway/dually filtering. Mines the wrong colour tho ( Orange for Railway working) but i still get noticed. Not had any major incidents with filtering apart from yesterdays twat on a scooter.

A mate of mine has racked up 2 dead peds, both with Aspencades, although it was many years ago. He was found blameless in both cases. One was an old woman wanting to top herself. She leapt out in front of a marked police car, failing to observe the full-dress Wing immediately in front of it. I forget the circumstances of the other one, but the elderly gent involved didn't try the same manouevre again.

The only time I hit a pedestrian was in 1999 during my scooter (Vespa) period. I was going up Tottenham Court Road in London and this woman jumped out of a taxi in walked across the road. I managed to swerve away but the brake handle caught her elbow! Shocked - I stopped and she was in a lot of pain but said it was not my fault - it wasn't anyway - and I eventually went on my way!

What really bugs me is people who seem to believe that by pushing their child in a pushchair into the road is going to make it easier for them to get across.

Is it just me but every time there is an incident with a motorbike the other person, usually a car driver says: 'He was speeding like hell'.

I remember when I had my Aerox 100 and I was going around a roundabout and a guy in a crappy old banger of a fiesta blantently looked at me coming the pulled out while checking the opposite direction then turned back and looked at me. I pulled up right and braked hard enough to result only in a bit of red paint down my blue body work.

He said to the police: 'I'm good at judging distances and without a doubt in my mind he was doing about 65mph.

Officer: (looked at my 100cc scooter) you sure?

Dumbass: Yup!

Officer: Why did you still pull out then if he was were you said considering he had the right of way.

Dumbass: I though I could nip out in front of him

Officer: So in summery; You seen him doing approx. 65mph on a roundabout, riding a 100cc scooter and you decided you could nip in front for him?

Anyway...he tried to blag his way out of it, but the copper was having none of it. I said I didn't want to claim off him insurance because it was only a bit of paint work and wasnt worth the bother but he did get a caution of driving without due care and a producer.

Pedestrians walking out on you! Don't get me started. There is a trend in Central London, or maybe just Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly Circus, where a red lightmeans nothing at all. They still cross the road reading the paper, listening the their Ipod and talking on their mobile.
Btw the worst offenders are cyclists, with Ipod on full blast, hand signalling to go past a bus stop without looking.

PS: How loud can cans be before they are illegal?
And is there a significant increase in petrol consumption, as I travel 130miles per day?

God you lot would have one hell of a time on the continent, here in Spain you will not get anywhere unless you simply walk infront of the cars and bikes, reason being they simply will not stop or slow down if you don't. So the general technique here is sort of thinking "look right, look left blah blah, something coming? Cross anyway!" Having said that i tend to look just to check they will be able to stop in time.

Well the US military are developing riot control systems which are like localised pacification fields which induce pain on victims in a certain radii ,

wait till that becomes legal for civvie use ,

or just look up "brown noise" which is supposed to be a sound which is at a certain frequency that makes people lose control of their bowels , apparently considered as an anti riot weapon , kind of messy though , but that could be easily made by connecting it to the 12v on the bike , imagine that on your commute every day everybody browns their pants.

'Brown noice' actually referes to the frequency that causes the relaxation of the anal sphincter. This method has been used before but not to induce a bowl movement. I think it was used in the USA. They used a gun that emitted microwaves at a frequency that caused crippling stomach cramps that caused to target to just curl up in a ball holding their stomachs. It was ideal because it had no side effects.
