CBR 600 versus Bandit

Just passed my test last Thursday and can't wait to get a bike asap.

I do a lot of motorway commuting, but need something fun for the weekend, and may also carry the wife. Some chap I know wants to flog me a CBR 600 on a J reg for £1700. Sounds like a lot of dough for that, although he will give me a warranty, service and mot.

Any opinions/thoughts on what I should go for? I think I could get a very good 5yr old Bandit for circa £2K, but the CBR (equivalent)seems more expensive.

That's silly money for a J reg, I don't care how good condition it's in.

Thats a lot of money for a J reg. I wouldn't pay that much for a J reg

I paid £1200 for a T reg Bandit with only 3k on the clock Cool

Anyway, if you can afford it get a 2001 (or newer) VFR800.

Are you going to be restricted?

Are you likey to be wanting to 'thrash' the bike, or will you be happy to take it easy to start with?

If you can take it easy and/or are going to be restricted, I'd go for a sports style 600, but not that one.
