A Wireless PCMCIA card is much better than a USB one, having the USB one stuck of a port on the back is just asking for trouble on a laptop.

Plus you can buy PCMCIA cards fairly cheaply on eBay.

Though I spose if you want to move the wireless capability between laptops and desktops then a USB one would make sense.

newer laptops don't have PCMIA slots anymore , what you can do is get those which have an extender USB cable so you can clip it to the top of the screen or something , this does have problems that theres USB cable sticking out the side/back of your machine , but a PCMIA card also sticks out the side too.

The PCMCIA slot ones still stick out, meaning more trouble than a USB one on a cable - I've had a couple killed, one by someone dropping it, the other by me leaving the card in, then braking a bit too hard while it was (in it's bag) on me passenger seat.

I've not found a laptop yet that doesn't have one, even Apple's latest Macbook Pro still has the PCMCIA/Cardbus slot.
