Rebuilt my forks (replaced the seals and changed the oil) the manual suggested that I use 430cc of oil but does not mention how much of an air gap to leave. The manual says the forks have 120mm of travel so do I seal them 120mm away from bottoming out?

Thanks
John

Hi

Just make sure they are fully empty and then use the amount of oil specified. The air gap will need to be more than 120mm.

All the best

Keith

So I separate them fully and then seal them? Is there not a risk of the forks separating?

Hi

They bolt together. Just drain them thoroughly and then fill up.

All the best

Keith

I dismantled the forks from the stanchions, replaced the seals and circlips and rebuilt them. I then filled them with oil and went to replace the seals on the top of the tube but am unsure if they need to be sealed air tight with the forks bottomed out or with the forks at the top of their travel.

Hi

Which seals? Main seals should be in place before you fill with oil. Not a hope that you can fully compress the forks with the springs in place anyway, so assemble them with the forks fully extended.

All the best

Keith

Only one of the forks on the RS 125 is sprung. I replaced the main seals. I'll have a go with them tomorrow morning sealing them airtight at there fully extended point.
