I have been interested in getting one for ages, but im not paying the price they ask for one in the US.

But after reading this:

Click me!

Have a look at the 360 of the helmet at the bottom.

I may change my mind and fork out the $500.

Problem is finding a place to try them on and find my size Thinking

The first one I had about 7 years ago was the same and the vents just ejected themselves at random. But my newest one (3years old now) I have had no problems what so ever...Much improved, or have I been lucky?

*edit*

Just to note that is taken from the Arai's own website, they are going to talk their own product up. Wink

I have had one for 4 years, so looking at getting a new one.

I wouldn't have anything else - they are extremely comfortable Mr. Green

Well worth the money!

Shame they cost so much, us poor people cant afford them Confused I wanted a arai tour x2, but cant afford the £300 price tag so have ordered a airoh s4 (basicly a copy of the tour) for £100. Would be intresting to see a comparison of the crash testing for the two helmets, any one know a site that has the reports on them?

Hi
If you hit your head at 140 MPH, even if the helemt didnt smash (which it would) the force of stopping from 140mph to about zero, would mush your brain into the side of your skull, im pretty sure this would happen at lower speeds aswell, emagine it at 70 MPH it would still be quite messy.

And dont even get me started on injuries that would be caused to the neck and spine,

what a load of bollocks.

Had mine for over a year now, bit noisy, visor release is a bit of a knack (and then takes 5 seconds there after), but I'll definately buy another when the time comes.

from the look of the damage, he must have shot through the horizontally, rotated a little. and smack full pelt on that part of the helmet and come to a complete stop.
i say that because the damage is ONLY on that dent. there is no scratching anywhere on it. no signs of it being in a 140mph crash other than the dent.
i know it's possible to have an off without hitting the helmet, has happened to me twice, but that was only at 20mph, but at 140? Middle Finger Rolling Eyes bs

"...eyewitnesses later said was about 140mph"

We all know you can't estimate someone's speed by looking at them, even though people try. He didn't say "I was doing 140mph". He also said he's got amnesia.

He broke his back, his leg in eight places, his ribs and bruised his lungs. Hardly escaped scott free!

I had a problem with the vent on the back of my Arai where it wasn't closing properly. Arai replaced the vent for free. Other than that, no complaints. I think I'm going to buy a Shoei next though.

That's the impression I was under as well. Your lid may well keep your head in one piece, but beyond a certain speed it's the decelaration that kills by slapping your brain against your skull. Regardless of how fantastic your helmet, there's only so much it can do on impact - in other words, if that guy did survive hitting a lamp post at 140mph (how the smeg is he still in one piece, let alone able to sign his name?), it'll be 95% pure dumb sodding luck and maybe 5% helmet.

Not to say there's anything wrong with spending a fortune on your lid (*coughSystem5cough*) or Arai in particular Wink

He said he hit a street sign, not a lamp post, so assuming that was something like a stop sign he hit, I know that stop signs bend fairly easily, so he may have been saved through a combination of the helmet taking the hit along with the stop sign bending.
I'm not sure about 140mph either though, I'd say probably 100, or maybe less considering the general public ALWAYS seem to say bikes are speeding Wink
